Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony very late to generation 9?

Now that it is confirmed by the xbox boss himself that scorpio is the next generation xbox with full backwards compatibility, will sony release the ps5 in 2018?

The switch is coming outsoon and the scorpio probably in Q3 this year. This leave sony way behind!

I'm not sure how to respond to this

PS4 Pro and Scorpio are surely the consoles of one generation. Whatever you call it - 8.5 or 9

P.S. It wasn't hard enough to guess the thread author before opening it

Pro and Scorpio aren't a new generation though.

Nintendo will just start the new generation 3 or 4 years before the rest.

Generations are too messy now. Really, I think this 8th gen might simply encapsulate all of them much like the 2nd generation which included consoles of varying capabilities and multiple iterations of the same (two Atari for instance).

The main issue is there's a definite diminishing returns at work here from generation to generation, and if they plan to further mess with that by introducing minor upgrades more frequently, we really won't have clear cut generations going forward.

Nice job, anyway.

They want to ride the success of the PS4.
Theres no reason to release a playstation 5 after only 3 years (4th starting this year)

I try!

I don't know how to feel now after reading this thread. lol

I guess that you can fail either if you are too late (xbox), or too early(dreamcast) into the next gen.
