Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will wiimotes be compatible with the Switch?

I'm one of those weird people that plays Smash competitively with the wiimote held sideways. I know, eww.

I know the Switch supports bluetooth but I'm wondering if it will support wiimotes.

I haven't found any info on it so if anyone has any, plaese halp....

I don't think so. Joy-cons are the future.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I don't think so either. Is there anything to stop a 3rd party making one?

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Probably but only for Wii Virtual console games when they arrive.

Wii Remotes require the light bar. No light bar with the switch, no place to even plug it in. Any questions?

They only require it for ir pointing.

Candles can do the same job. Wii sensor bars can run off batteries or usb. It's only two little infrared leds.

Of course Nintendo will just make a new Switch-compatible light bar instead of just selling you Switch Controllers that do everything Wii Remotes do and more.

That makes sense.

Im sure they are going to drop all them Wii stuff.

OP wanted it for Smash. Sensor bar isn't required for Smash or SMB or Mario Kart or most games for that matter.

Nintendo had sensor bars for WiiU, same ones as Wii I think, a USB adaptor is all that would be needed if Nintendo wanted to add full Wii BC at some point, assuming Switch doesn't have it's own way of doing IR pointing (not seen pointer controls yet).

It still isn't happening. You know it isn't happening. Just accept it.
