Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bring back the light gun

I'm not sure whether it was the rise of fps, the death of the Arcades or a combination of the above that caused this genre to die, but dammit I need my fix.

I grew up playing Time Crisis, Virtue Cop, House of the Dead and during the PS2 era I had a bunch of light gun games on my ps2. Hell, even on the PS3 I went out and bought the Time Crisis collection, House of the Deads and The Shoot.

Here we are in this so called "gaming renaissance" and these games are no where to be found. I want to play Point Blank and compete with friends. I want to play House of the Dead with its cheesy one liners. I want to feel like a badass 80's action hero in Time Crisis. I want to play the weird Ninja Assault game and more.

It feels like peripheral required games have all but died and won't be making a return anytime soon.

Well.... at least you have PSVR with its PS Move controllers. Maybe Namco could make a Time Crisis for PSVR.

Unfortunately, doesn't seem like any shooter game will become revolutionary anytime soon (besides Splatoon, but that doesn't count). Shooters would work well with peripherals, but seems like people have adjusted to controller/keyboard gaming.

Perhaps focus less on the peripherals and more on the game? You're a rare type of person- most people want less gimmicky peripherals.

I Think gun games could become popular again, if they find a simple solution with a sensor bar and guns and make sure that you don´t see the guns sight when you shoot (it kind of spoils things :)). Since the traditional light guns don´work on anything other than a CRT TV, you would need something like a sensor bar so solve it.

Just go to the nearest arcade. There is bound to be one in a 1000km radius.

CRTs ftw!

If you have PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and Two PlayStation Move controllers, then Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is exactly what you are looking for.

Similar experiences can also be found in PlayStation VR Worlds and Carnival Games VR.

Later this year Sony is bringing out the PS VR Aim Controller which will bring even more arcade/on rail shoot like experience home.

Forgot PSVR had these experiences. If I had a PSVR I'd surely have rush of blood but I don't think I'm ready to drop £350 anytime soon for a VR headset.

I had the Guncon with the pedal on the PS2 for time crisis. It felt just like the arcade, minus the screen bring as big lol

Will the Switch get more light gun games thanks to the joycons, the same way the Wii got a ton of those thanks to the Wii? Will they work well on handheld mode?

You know it deserves the GOTY.
