Get Dark Cloud 2 ASAP!!

You just missed it at 5$ during the Flash Sale but it will be on sale again soon I'm sure.

You don't have the play the first one. Both games are unrelated.

But seriously though, in addition to that one of course.... I will say the best ones to play are Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story and the Parasite Eve series.

My fav. genre and my fav consoles for that genre. There are waaaay too many games to mention. My recommendations -and the ones I'd consider the best - in no particular order or ranking:

PS1:
Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9.
Final Fantasy Tactis - The best tactics games of the series, still an RPG. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Suikoden I and II - Suikoden II Is the best RPG in the history of 2D Rpgs.
Chrono Cross
Vagrant Story
Legend of Dragoon
Tales of Phantasia
Grandia
Valkyrie Profile
Breath of Fire III and IV
Dragon Quest 7
Chrono Trigger (I guess... Those cinematics are awesome)
Symphony of the night... It has rpg elements ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Alundra
Lunar
Star Ocean

Dark Cloud 2 - Somehow I think you'd like this game, its on the ps4 psn store.

Valkyrie Profile 2 - Underrated gem.

Ironically no. Whats more sad is I have yet to play or beat any Konami game (excluding bomberman and adventure island series because they bought hudson)

Would it still be recommended to play DC1 before DC2? I usually like playing games in order of release because I expect myself to engage in every game I can in a series that I start :)

Dark Cloud 2 is called Dark Chronicle in Europe so it's like you'd be playing the first game in the Dark Chronicle series!

I won't name many games since most have been mentioned and you listed some you have played ,PS1 - legend of legaia ,Parasite Eve ,Star Ocean: the second story ,Grandia , legend of dragoon, Vagrant story.
PS2 Rogue galaxy ,Persona 3 fes , Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts covenant , SMT nocturne, SMT digital devil saga 1 &2 and bending the rules okami
