Why can't I import a Mass Effect 1 character into Mass Effect 2?

I have a ME1 character full playthrough on my PC but when I select import character i8n ME2 it says no character was found and run configuration utility to copy save games to the appropriate location.

But I can only run the ME1 utility and I can move save games. I find the ME2 config utility by using file explorer but I can't open it.

I played ME1 from a game disc (full install) in a pre-EA version of the game. I just got ME2 for free from Origin. Is that why there is a problem with character importing?

Actually, I figured it out. I had to close out of ME2 before I could run the ME2 config utility. All sorted now.

It seems likes your copy of ME2 isnt finding your ME1 save files. Hmm....I'll see if I can I have the same problem. I have Origin and a my ME1 PC copy is on Steam.

Edit: Weird....I'm having the exact same problem.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever decide to play it again. I was only trying to help out Binary. I don't see see myself playing ME1 again. Between 360 and PC, I finished that games 16 times. I found ME3 disappointing, so I don't see myself playing through the trilogy ever gain.
