Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch preorders go live in Japan - and are gone in minutes

2 million world wide is like 660,000 per major market ... that should sell out easily, that's not a lot of stock and in Japan with it being a more portable centric market this was a bit of a no brainer. What sales are like say come May will be more telling.

Probably more proportionnal, 400-500k like WiiU in Japan ( also sold out just to rémind people who go crazy about something normal, Japanese launches are almost always like this, it doesnt say anything about thé success , youll bé able to judge that After 2-3 months post launch, same for thé reste of thé world  , just liké WiiU who had à Big success during thé 2 first months and then flopped hard)

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

And id bé really surprised if this thing Works in Japan Because from what i hear thé atmosphère around it Is Bad. Especially since Japanese dont liké paid online on consoles, so Splatoon 2 wont bé as Big as à systèm seller when thé online stops to bé free

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Someone told me, that Japanese gamers hate the Switch because of his friend who read it on forum, nothing hated like that would sell out. (Look above)

Thats incredible!Thats really good to hear.I mean, it would be better to know hoe much there was in stock, but hey, selling that fast and being Japan, I think it got a good part of those 2 millions.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Nintendo Switch Has Incredible Demand In Japan; Online & In-Store Pre-Orders Sold Out In Minutes

Whether it was queuing up outside for almost 24 hours or trying to get a Nintendo Switch online, it didn’t last long for them to completely sell out. Amazon pre-orders went up at 9am in Japan, and it was gone in just 5 minutes, people who waited outside stores all night, didn’t have too much luck either with the console selling their complete stock allocation in just 15 minutes. While demand has been great in Europe and America, it doesn’t come close to how popular pre-orders have been in Japan.

Many gamers in Japan have been left without a pre-order for a launch day Nintendo Switch, which has caused the reselling market in Japan to explode with resellers in Japan already selling the console on Amazon for double the price of the retail price.

It’s not known when Japan or even Europe/America will get a second allocation of stock for beyond the launch day pre-orders but we will make sure to keep you updated on the stock of the console.

sounds promising, unless it's Nintendo creating artificial demand again

Damn ... that running gag is poison.

But it's true. Nintendo purposefully did that with the NES and SNES, too.

Selling out just doesn`t mean nothing. If they offer extreme low numbers of course it`s going to sell out. It would mean more to sell 4 million from a 5 million initial shipment than selling 100.000 from 100.000... for example. And the later scenario is much more likely since no hard numbers were shared, whitout any real data this kind of headline is just... you know... clickbait ...

And I somewhat agree. What actually irks me the wrong way is that when Nintendo releases this kind of press(or it is released for them, you got what I meant), everyone says "Oh, its Nintendo creating artificial demand again!".It can be, but its everytime. But when its PSVR, everyone says, "Oh no, its meeting Sonys expectations, so low sales are good".I mean, I know Im comparing an acessory to a console, but the double standard is tiring.

Someone tells me that its your first launch or you have a sélective memory ;)

I never said it would flop right at launch, no flop happens at launch for Nintendo or Sony, you should know that n'y now.

Remember WiiU Big flop despite Big launch, it seems people never learn.

Again, to be expected for launch. What's going to be interesting is seeing how it does in the following months. If Square Enix somehow gets the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI out in May...Switch is going to do surprisingly well in Japan for the rest of the year I'd imagine due to the holiday.

Good to read. Hopefully Japan will come through with their Switch Support, which is more likely as Japanese gamers are not as entitled as their Western "Artificial Demand!" Counterparts.
