Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What sort of success do third party's need to say to stick around

If ports like Steep, RiMe, DQ11, Skyrim and others go over well technically and financially - they'll be there.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Maybe if 3rd party's actually gave Nintendo consoles decent ports which have the same features and aren't released 6 months after they've been released everywhere else, I'd actually buy them.

The just need to cover the porting costs and make a profit. The switch could sell 2 million units but if all 2 million people bought Skyrim and the port made its money back at 1 million we'd probably see another Bethesda game

This is all that needs to be said really.

If the game sells enough to where the cost of the port was worth it and they made a profit, they'll continue releasing games on it.

So basically if the Switch has the userbase big enough and people actually buy the third party games on their Switch then third parties will keep on supporting it.

Not really.

Just as easily they could estimate that the money spend on a port woud be better used for more marketing the PS4 and others versions.

And this way their devs are better utilized rather then spending time on whats already expected to be a weak seller.

As much as installed base I think they will try like EA with FIFA and base off of that if more support comes or not.

This. 100% this. It's not just about making a profit, it's about generating the most profit from their investment. if it's more profitable to not invest in Nintendo Switch games, they won't.

do the work get the reward. A 3rd party only has to make a game better than ARMS... Better than ARMS for f*&k sake! Really a missed oppurtunity for 3rd parties here. I have no doubt the switch will sell 2milly pretty fast. Everyone will get zelda and what else????? if just dance and skylanders is the competition for zeldas runner up than, again, i'd say that's a pretty big missed opportunity don't you???? Alas, it's probably a taste of things to come. *hit mortal kombat music*

you know what's weird? I tried skyrim like 3 years ago on ps3. Didn't enjoy it. Might give it another go. stupid right? sometimes i guess i'm stupid. Like today when i pre-ordered all the LOZ amiibos after saying i would only stick to the smash ones her on out. ... stupid.

It's not install base (Wii) and it's not user base either. The only factor in third party releases is how well their games will sell on a given platform. If they feel their title won't be worth the effort to port it or bring it to a console, they won't do it and that's been Nintendo's problem since the middle/end of the SNES era.

When SOA and their Genesis Does campaign overtook them in the US for a few years, their image with teenagers and young adults were damaged forever. They tried to rectify with Gamecube but failed.

Until we see a day when the average Madden and COD guys buy Nintendo consoles, we're going to continue to see problems with third parties. Even games that don't sell to that particular demographic will stay away because as the Madden/COD gamers go, so too goes the mainstream consumer and that's needed for third party games to sell at volume.

It could, but as long as 3rd party is making a profit and ports are easy, then it should be fine
