Resident Evil 7 PSVR is 'a step above TV experience'

Looking to play Resident Evil 7 with PSVR? Then you're in for a treat, Capcom teases.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard VR designer Kazuhiro Takahara has said that playing the game with PlayStation VR is a cut above the regular TV-based experience of the upcoming survival horror sequel.

Speaking during an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine U.K., Takahara-san also touched on how Capcom has managed to quell any simulation sickness that players may have when playing Resi 7 with PSVR. One thing’s for sure though; it’s definitely going to require a clean pair of underwear.

Normally when we make a game we get a bit numb to the scariness, but even when we know where the enemies are going to come from, when I put PSVR on it’s still scary every time. It’s a level above the TV experience.”

We knew straight away that something felt off about it when you experience movement in VR, even when it felt fine on the screen. I think it’s a great way of controlling it. Just looking at what you want to aim at is such a direct way of inputting.”

Resident Evil 7 is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One next Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The game is set four years after the events of its action-packed predecessor, and sees newcomer Ethan Winters searching for his missing wife on a spooky plantation mansion in Dulvey, Louisiana. This time around however, Capcom has focused more on building atmosphere and tension by setting the game from a first-person viewpoint.

According to Capcom, the game should last players around 15 hours, depending on individual skill levels. The game is going to weigh in at over 20GB on your PS4, and will receive a free story-based experience in spring 2017.

Stay tuned for our Resident Evil 7 review next week.

if there is one thing i know for sure it is that i WILL NEVER PLAY A HORROR GAME IN VR.

That was to be expected. In a review they also mentioned already how much better it is in VR.

This game really should only be played in VR.

Everybody who doesnt play in VR, no matter how much framerate or resolution he has, will just have an extremly subpar gaming expierence.

Ah yes! Can't trust them! Look at how biased they are! Posting a direct quote from the producer of the game!

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Wait - so it feels off when you move in VR....and that's somehow a good thing now?

With a sencente like that I expect an:'but we found a way to resolve the issues' to follow not what amounts to:'Eh, we left it in. Motion sickness is a feature now.'

Maybe I'm reading this wrong?

This is the most accurate statement you could make.

There is no way to match the emersion, excitement, awareness, or control of the VR experience on a traditional flat or curved display. Even a 100"+ 8K display, running at 120fps will feel completely disconnected if you have experienced VR before. The magnitude of advancement that VR holds over traditional displays can not be overstated.

If you can't experience this game in VR next week, I would hold off until you can afford to.
