Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch Launch Feels Like a "Soft Launch"

When are early adopters not paying more for less?

Yeah. Early adopters are always paying more for less. But this is more highlighted because of game lineup. No third party games and all remastered or complete edition game including cross gen ones makes the big question. Did Wii U owners and potential Switch users got ripped?

Well in my opinion the word "ripped" is a misnomer. Unless the seller intentionally hides aspects of the product before purchase(which is a crime anyway) no one is getting ripped. Everyone is getting what they are paying for.

We have people in this thread who are trying to say that Zelda doesn't really count. There is no reason for debunking when it's blatantly obvious that people have lost their minds.

It doesn't count because it's not Mario. It's like launching a Playstation without a new Crash Bandicoot or launching an Xbox without a new Halo.

What the hell are you two even arguing about?

"""""only"""""" 2-3m units for launch

that is pretty good, especially for March

We both think that we are smarter than the rest of you.

..than the rest of me? How does that even work?

Don't try to get smart with us, boy.

I agree. It might actually be a good tactic though. They need that console to come out fast, they need a console they can sell games on now. And the Wii U just isn't that system. I don't think they care all that much about the fiscal year end report, but it might play a small part in the timing.
They can't justify delaying Zelda anymore, but they need Zelda to sell their system, so they have no other option than to release the system now. A super strong launch lineup isn't necessarily a good thing. The Wii U actually had a good launch lineup despite what people say. A ton of third party games, that didn't sell well because they were competing against each other over a small user base, it essentially cost Wii U its momentum.
Mario Odyssey is done, but releasing it simultaneously with Zelda is too risky. Nintendo don't want to release all their big main titles too close to each other.

The Switch will get its games in the fall. Mario, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem Warriors, possibly Pikmin and a handful of third party titles. I actually don't expect Pokemon Stars to come for the Switch, it makes more sense to release it on the 3DS in my opinion, and then the next Pokemon title for Switch in 2018.

It's not a ''soft'' launch. Its a terrible launch. The worst I've ever seen for any console or handheld. I'll wait for a bundle with lower price and more games 2-3 years in the future.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Not sure that launching with no OS and no games is a good idea. The few of them that make it out in the wild will definitly turn people away. Nintendo Lifers will be fine with a device specifically for Zelda , Mario Kart, and Splatoon, but even core gamers are gonna have a hard time justifying a device that limited. When it comes to casuals, the lack of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO, Youtube, Spotify, Pandora, Web Browsing, and so much more is going to totally turn them away. They already have $500 tablets that do so much, plus they can play Pokemon Go, Mario Run, and the rest of the upcoming Nintendo mobile games.

Come holiday time, Nintendo could very well be fighting against the early image they have created of the device. The longer it takes to get word on the basic apps mentioned above the more things will turn negative. Honestly, the way it is right now, this could turn out worse than the Vita and the WiiU.

Hopegully, they have a really good gameplan lined up for the next 9 months, because they are going to have to work fast to make things work short term, and they have to make sure to give a long term vision as well.People need to know why they need the system this year, and they need to know things are coming beyond Mario Odyssey.

Yeah, very little feels like it's launched in a finished state these days. But a console? Weird.
Maybe they were anxious to get it out before these new upgraded consoles made the Switch look too under-powered (I don't think it worked).
