Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's dodgy Q&A with Kotaku

The way they're talking about it, Nintendo thinks Switch is launching in December. I can't believe we are getting such vague responses when launch is barely a month away. Classic Nintendo, I guess.

If they would've have nothing to offer in this regard, the answer would look like Netflix and stuff. But they say they have nothing to announce. This more says to me they keep features regarding Online/Virtual Console and so on under covers to reveal at a later point.

These are basic housekeeping things for a console. Imagine if Microsoft is unwilling to say whether your Xbox Live account will transfer over from the Xbox 360. They're not special features, they're suppose to be the norm and it is disappointing that Nintendo can't even keep up with the basics. For instance, how do you lose the ability to stream Netflix in the evolution from the Wii U to the Switch? Things are suppose to progress, not regress.

Oh, clearly this stuff will be revealed before release. No doubt about it, they cannot hold back talking about main features like online, until the gamers see them for themself. No, there will be another press release. But for now they are secretive about it.

And the streaming thing: These apps have to be developed. Probably not a high priority for Netflix and other. Keep in mind, not Nintendo is developing this apps.

Well, they were pretty secretive about it. Very late reveal and now the event showing the main console-feature less than two months before release. So keeping online still under the wraps for a later point in time don't seem so surprising given that they seemingly do all pretty close to release.

I'm pretty sure I heard a guy in the treehouse explain how VC purchases will work. You can get them for free on Switch if you have the game for both 3DS and Wii U. If you only have one of the versions you will have to buy again.

And no, this is too stupid to be just made up by me.

I have the feeling they have heard the criticism of what's been shown of their subscription system and they are scrambling to get something better ASAP, and that's why they're being vague about it. At least I hope so.

That's completely wrong.

Their original announcement was that they will detail their upcoming online services at a later date. The answers to Kotaku are in line with that. Nintendo isn't going to make their announcement through Kotaku.

The problem isn't that they are in line with what they said. The problem is that it isn't "later date" already.

it is a bit annoying, I love the GC and loved the Wii even more, I missed out on the WiiU so there's so many of them games I wanna play. I really want to be convinced to buy the Switch but so far only the mario game is selling it to me and I need more reasons.

I think they should have had every Wiiu game ported over to the Switch for launch because so many people missed out on the likes of Pikmin 4 and Super Mario 3D World. If the full Wiiu range ports were available at launch I reckon that would have carried it for a while and let them get their house in order.

Things of concern:

How much time did they spent developing this thing?

They are following their schedule to announce it later. What's the problem? People make a fuss about everything when it comes to Nintendo. Everything is a problem or a sign of major trouble.

We already know how accounts are gonna work and we know your my Nintendo account will work with the Switch, btw.

Wait so if you didn't double dip with 3DS and Wii U, you don't get squat? Really?

They're just not aware that the console releases in 40~ days. They will worry about it later.

Is it really a problem? You preordered a Switch anyway.

I do a lot of stupid things. That doesn't absolve Nintendo from shitty PR.
