Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony Innovation and Power in one

No, not really.

Sony makes (usually) good well made products. But, there's nothing about their hardware that has been especially innovative. Maybe the cell processor.

In terms of software they're about average in terms of innovation. Most of their games fall within established genres without changing all that much about them. Some of their products are downright derivative. And every so often they'll have quirky side projects. So, pretty much average.

Feel free to prove me wrong with examples.

How about you play a 3D Mario game first before you claim it hasn't changed in 20 years.

the point i'm making is that mechanics change within all game franchises, but for some reason that fact is only acknowledged in nintendo games by some people

And again, I tell you to play the game. There's a far bigger difference between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64/Sunshine than between Vice City and GTA V. GTA has made the obvious progression of bigger and more immersive worlds thanks to increasingly powerful hardware. While SM64 and Sunshine actually had bigger and more open levels than Galaxy - even though Galaxy was on a more powerful console. Galaxy simply focused on something entirely else/new. It made an evolution that wasn't just dictated by more powerful hardware.

Epic created and made gears of war successful not Microsoft. They simple bought the IP years later.

And Sony simply bought Naughty Dogs. They were already succesful before being owned by Sony. What's your point exactly?

Lets see if I understand.

If I say that there is nothing similar to Gravity Rush on the market, you will probably say that platforms have been done before, therefore I will be wrong corret?

But if you say that Splatoon is something different, but I dare to say that is another shooter, I will also be wrong right?

I really don't want to get into the fact that Nintendo releases the same franchises over and over and over and over again every generation, because I appreciate Nintendo a lot. But I have been in this same spot before and I know I will never make you see things another way.

So I hope you have an excellent day Sr. :)

My thoughts exactly.Nintendo releases the same franchises over and over and over and over,no one bats an eye or say they are mliking it to death. The only franchise Sony has released since day one is GT.They create multiple IPs every generation.

Not only that but for some reason people call Nintendo innovative. Seriously, if you press control +F in a thread where Nintendo is discussed there is just no way you won't see several mentions of how "innovative" their games are.

I mean, hardware, maybe with wii and really nothing else. Software? Innovative? That's the last word I'd use to describe them.

I wouldn't call ps4 games innovative either, but their variety is unparalleled (if we exclude pc's).

My point is Microsoft didn't create GeOW.  Epic did.  I thought my statement was pretty straightforward and easy to understand?

It almost feels like the thread title and the thread itself is two different topics o.O
At any rate... innovation? nah.
Power? maybe

What they do have is a strong third party support (unlike Nintendo), western and japanese (unlike Microsoft) alike
They also have some heavy hitting first party titles to back it up.

Also plenty of non heavy hitting first party titles that other companies would have never greenlit or cancelled at some point.

There is a special reason why Playstation is called "The Best Place To Play".

And there's a special reason why their adverts say "The World's Best Selling Console". They offer the best product to the consumer and they respond with their wallets.

Sony is easily the most balanced between power, innovation and variety. Nintendo isn't as innovative as they're made out to be. Their hardware sure, but, their software? In terms of controls maybe but genre innovation? Last game for me that was truly innovative was Modern Warfare.

The answer is yes, Sony is the perfect balance between hardware power and software innovation. Next topic.

Yup, Sony is GOAT right now.

I don't agree with the innovation part, but I agree that they have new games more often than Nintendo and MS. Remember, innovation =/= new

Agreed; I feel like Nintendo or other companies pioneered a lot of the now common tech (rumble, motion sensing, shoulder buttons, VR, etc.).
