You have to put in on every single controller means also Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R. Would increase the costs and everyone else would even more complain than they are doing right now.

I personally have no issues using my Smartphone for Voice Chat, but I don't even use voice chat at all.

ha lol i dont use Voice chat anyway but this means when your out and about you can still game online aslong as your phone is online.

If that is their line of thinking, and they're going to charge through the nose for extras anyway, why not just handle it like that?

Maybe it's only a case where having voice chat activated throughout a gameplay session sucked the battery too fast? Anyone thought of that?

But that wouldn't excuse that they also left it out for those who play it docked...
