There are people who don't have a smartphone? wow.

To emphasize it more:

People have money to buy a console and several multiplayer games, but can't afford a smartphone?

OMG....... you too?

To emphasize it more.... it SHOULD NOT have to be that way. Having a smartphone shouldn't be a requirement to have the switch.

Talking like this just makes you come of as one of those poeple that will excuse any and everything nintendo does. And yes, some people don't have a smartphone. Some people have a feature phone, some people may not use a phone at all and even if they do..... its just extremely stupid requiring someoe to have to use a phone.

I have no idea how you can be excusingthis nonsense.

Where is it written that a smartphone is a requirement for the switch anyway?

So far, what is known, we have not enough information.

Hey, at least you don't need a TV to use the switch! I don't see anyone complaining that Xbox and PlayStation are totally useless without a TV! =P

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Ok, guess we should all just bury our heads in the sands.

Links to nintendos official site discussion the online features of the switch has been in this thread multiple times. Thats whre its written.

In this link where nintendo officially describes the switch online features, it has TWO categories. One talks about online which allows you get into random online matches from your Switch and the other talks about an online app to be released later in the year that would take care of the "higher" online features like inviting frinds, creating parties, lobbies, voice chat...etc.

Don't take my word for it though, go to the site and take it directly from nintendo.

How clear does a company need to be?

Sounds like he's saying it's an all in one voice chat/matchmaking/etc solution. Meaning the Switch can't do voice chat on its own but it can do matchmaking.

No, you know what? I just wait and see what will be delivered at the end. I am not jumping the gun. I just wait and see and decide when we will have all the information on the online services.

In the Switch UI, there is an icon that's a "message bubble"(the first one from the left). Realistically, it must mean you'll be able to communicate with people directly from the Switch console, even if it's just by text. So I don't know if we should conclude that everything will be tied to the mobile app just yet.

EDIT: Never mind. That icon is said to stand for "game news". -______-

That's just your mailbox where Nintendo's invoices for the online service go.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If there really is no way to communicate outside of the app, they are telling parents to get their kids cell phones or tablets to make full use of their console. If that ends up being the case, that's indeed dumb on Nintendo's part and a huge oversight.

But I'll wait until we have more details/confirmation before going all negative about all this. Personally, it doesn't affect me, since I always have my phone next to me. But for my son, and other parents, that will be a problem.
