Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Would A Streaming App From Smartphones To Switch Be Possible?

I'm just curious about this because it sounds like the Switch doesn't have much of an OS ... what if that Nintendo app for the smartphones were to let you mirror content to your Switch?

So say you have movies or photos on your phone, what if you could stream that to your Switch. Or maybe even play iOS/Android games with physical controls on the Switch.

For this, Nintendo could charge a fee for this service so they make a few extra bucks on it or it could work right into their paid service.

I know iPhones/iPads have AirPlay which lets them be mirrored onto a Mac, I wonder if Nintendo could do something similar for Switch.

EDIT: Can I ask this question for more tech savvy people? Say you can stream your iPhone/iPad/Android device onto your Switch ... would you be able to "control" your iPhone/iPad/Android device through your Switch (ie: navigate through the menus and what not)? I wonder if Apple or Google allow that.

From my understanding, the Switch can't even do voice chat, so mirroring would seem very unlikely.

Your idea would be great though. Also being able to play Android games on the Switch would be pretty cool. But I think its unlikely.

That would actually be a really good idea.  Be the ultimate gaming machine, in terms of inclusion, not power.  Though I'm not techically savvy to give an answer to that.

"Charge a fee"

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Actually it would at least add some value to their "online service" I guess.

Why would anyone want to do that and on top of that pay a fee when they could just watch a movie or something on a device that can be easily connected to a TV these days?

Sounds like nightmare fuel for the consumer.

If I could play Android apps on my Switch with physical controls + watch movies/media from my phone on my Switch ... I'd be in.

This would also kinda be smart for Nintendo becuase it saves them the headaches of having to make an overly complex OS from scratch or have to waste resources (ie: the Wii U requiring 1/2 of its RAM to be devoted to an OS).

You can control a phone/etc via bluetooth.

Steaming would need data either by wifi or LTE although you can also use usb cable but we already have plenty of apps that can stream your phone to your PC and let you control your phone through your PC or control your phone through another phone and etc... At least on Android anyway

But the issue with wifi/LTE is Lathency

You got me with the Android app games but watching movies/media streaming from a phone to a game console when you could easily use the game console's browser or their own app (i.e. Netflix I'll use as an example) - sounds like a waste of battery for the phone and electricity since you'll be using both.

Might as well just watch the movie/show or w/e on your Switch rather than from your mobile device to switch.....

Edit: Using the switch controller for android apps would be nice but I highly doubt Google will give the greenlight to Nintendo.....

Could Google even do anything? I know there are TVs where you can stream stuff from your Android phone to the TV.

That would be a neat feature to have, but I don't think Nintendo would do this :p
