Grand Theft Auto 8 7.27%

Final Fantasy 14 12.73%

Other 28 25.45%

Total:110

In no particular order, except for the first two:

1. Final Fantasy
I've already written 12 articles on the series, with several more to come. See those if you need details on why I like the series. VI through X especially. In short, they feature many of my favourite stories, characters and music in any video game to date.
2. Souls/Bloodborne
Beautifully bleak worlds with expertly designed aesthetics combined with some of the best balanced gameplay in any game series. The lore of the games is really interesting, and they way it is told through item descriptions, dialogue and the world itself is a stroke of genius.
3. Uncharted
Just a fun series of games to play, with surprisingly well written characters and interesting stories.
4. Command & Conquer
My favourite RTS series. From the very first game up to at least Red Alert 2 they are among my most played games ever.

Those should do for now. I might add some more later when I have the time.

Mass Effect

Reasons for liking the series. i think Bioware did an amazing job creating a star wars esc universe full of complexity and life. My favourite RPG on the Xbox was TES III: Morrowind, which was just this huge complex game that i could get lost in for hundreds of hours, it had so many things to discover and then going straight into Mass Effect gave me that same sense of amazment and wonder. It wasnt the longest RPG ive played and it was fairly linear but the world design, the characters, the choices and consequences came together to fill that gap that Morrowind left. Whilst i do feel the sequels didnt live up to the first one, Mass Effect will still always be my first last gen RPG and a sci-fi RPG that i dont think will ever be topped for me.

I'll edit this post to add more later on.

Thanks, Versus :)

Morrowind is so damn good. I don't think any other RPG has inspired my love for the genre more than Morrowind. It will always have a special place in my heart.

I still need to play Mass Effect 2 and 3. Gotta hurry with Andromeda coming out.

Fallout (3, 4, & New Vegas) -- I remember being kind of an anti-FPS elitist (like a lot of people here) where I was just into Japanese games. A friend of mine was full-on Call of Duty (the old kind) and I looked upon him with disdain. One day something made me pick up Fallout 3 for PC, though, and it changed my gaming preferences forever.

I'm someone who plays slowly and cautiously even when I don't need to do so. I like setting things up in a way where I take less damage or where I can do stealth kills. Not out of fear, or anything like that, but because it adds a layer to game-play. Using a tactical approach lets me kind of immerse myself in the game, as well, where I'm thinking like my character, whereas the gung-ho approach makes it feel like nothing more than a game. I like my imagination to be engaged along with my motor skills. Fallout lets me decide how I'm going to play.

That, and the freedom to explore, which I loved even back with old-school RPGs. The first time I played Fallout 4, I found out where I was supposed to go, then took off in the opposite direction. I love that.

I've always been a big fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, as well, both movies and books. The world-vibe I get from Fallout is one of my favorites. It's quirky but also bleak and gritty.

I really, REALLY need to catch up on this series. I own all of them, but I know I'll disappear into each one and get lost for weeks

Metroid: With the exception of...certain...recent entries...I've held that Metroid is like Zelda, but for adults. The atmosphere, sense of isolation, and amount of skill required from the player are all ratched up a notch, and it tends to be far less predictable than its fellow Nintendo series.

Ace Attorney: One of the few series left that really puts a lot of effort into its writing. The characters are well rounded and funny, the mysteries are always enjoyable, and the games do an excellent job of interjecting just enough humor to avoid being too depressing while simultaneously keeping a consistent tone.

Devil May Cry: On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Devil May Cry hardly cares at all about writing and instead focuses on creating ridiculous combat scenarios. Unlike its hack and slash rival of the day, God of War, Devil May Cry has a much more expanded list of moves, allowing for the player to pull off long and varied combos, which makes it the far superior title in my opinion.

Fire Emblem: Fire Emblem was a series that surprised me, mainly because I've never been a huge fan of turn based combat. Entertaining and (usually) solid characters, as well as a clearly laid out series of maps and a number of additional rules allow for more than enough complexity to make it entertaining.

Super Smash Bros: I tend to have a thing for games that appeal to both casual fun and competition, and Smash Bros does that better than arguably any other game series. It's the perfect game for a random night with 4 buddies (assuming you can find that many who want to play), or for an actual contest of skill.

Mass Effect is up there. Bioware really outdid themselves, building one of the most believable, interesting, and well rounded sci-fi universes out there in any medium. It's got everything. Awesome, and easily identifiable alien races, supernatural forces, great futuristic designs, amazing music, perhaps the best cast of characters in any game ever, unrivalled continuity across the (current) trilogy, fantastic writing (ending of 3 notwithstanding). Obviously the series as a whole is still relatively young, and Andromeda will tell us a lot about whether Bioware can maintain the ridiculously high bar they've set, but even if they can't, the original trilogy will always be a landmark in outstanding game design and world building.

"Dead" Series

Grandia - To me this series was a good decade ahead of its time with the greatest battle system I've ever played in an RPG. It perfectly balances strategy with fun to create an engaging and challenging experience. The characters are bright and memorable with Grandia II (DC, PS2, PC) being the standout entry. I love Grandia so much that games that mimic it recent such as Child of Light (which receive praise from critics for its battle system) immediately get my attention. My most desired game of all time is either Grandia IV or Grandia II:Remake.

"Constant" Series

Zelda - It is hard to describe what makes Zelda so special, how every entry seems to remind me of the brilliance of gaming. The first entry was a revelation and I still hold Link to the Past up as one of the greatest games ever made. An amazing balance of puzzles, adventure, and combat that thrills me even after a dozen times saving the day as Link. Even though Breath of the Wild doesn't excite me as much, I know eventually I'll buy it, because "Zelda" outside as few odd entries has been the most consistently good video game series I can think of.

"New" Series

Gravity Rush - No game of the past five years has surprised me as much as Gravity Rush. I expected nothing and ending up loving the first game and remastered version making the sequel my most anticipated game of 2017. I really hope Sony makes an entry each generation because the controls, world, and characters are so vibrant and pull me in a way I haven't enjoyed a game in a long time.

Honorable Mentions

Mario, Ratchet and Clank, Disgaea, "Warriors", Uncharted, Mario Kart, Mass Effect, Smash Bros., Senran Kagura, and Castlevania. I'm sure I forgot some as well as enjoy so many series.

Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, Metroid, Resident Evil

Disgaea.

Has always been great, it gets technically better on every installment, even if my favorite chars are still from the first game (well, they appear on every following game as well, lol).

I like it because once I start playing it, I just don't want to stop to.
The story is fun and very comic, the characters are great and interesting, you have so many things to consider it's just ridiculous.

People often say it's a grind fest, but that's only true for the very last bosses of the post game, that are so powerful you just don't have another option than getting ridiculously strong just as well, but that involves making use of other things than leveling up, leveling up is one of the most inneficient ways to power up and stop being useful by that time, you can literally make a full 10 chars party of lv. 9999 and you'll have your ass completely handed to you by the last boss(es), but what will you need to grind? Your way up to it's full potential exploring some mechanics one after the other, and not just experience or money, you'll need to use the reincarnation, learn how to use the item world and its residents and that you can even become an space pirate, how to improve items and that you really need that thieving skill you most likely ignored on your first time playing the game, you'll have to pass bills that will likely involve you making use of the bribing system, you'll understand how to use geo effects for more than just battling, then you'll realise the difference of having a good party and making use of combos and different abilties effects and ranges, you'll realize some chars will only learn their best skills on superior tiers, you'll see there is a difficulty setting hidden inside the actual game for you to open up a whole new dimension of what to face and make use of it to improve.

Once you actually discover the game for what it is, it's hard not to love it and the people behind it, you'll realise the actual amount of work and care put into every inch of the game that it just doesn't care to show you if you are not worth it and go there try to learn it in its fullest.

Disgaea is such an amazing thing, sadly because it doesn't have much commercial appeal and forces the player to work to discover all there is to it, there is not much hope it'll ever receive as much recognition as it deserves.

The first Disgaea is still among my top ten games of all time. I probably dumped a good 200+ hours into it back in the PS2 days.  Such a deep experience where in certain respect the game begins after the end.

Mega Man

This one is gameplay in perfection. It just feels so good to play it, the gameplay is fluid as hell, the games are challenging but never unfair, it's highly motivating and the soundtrack is bad ass! Best game in the series is Mega Man X. That one really blew my mind and it's my favourite game of all time. I didn't like the newer games too much. Basically everything in 3D really turned me off. Never played the Battle Network Spin Offs.
