Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Won't Support Netflix at Launch - Report

According to a new report, the Nintendo Switch will not support Netflix at launch in March.

Business Insider (via NeoGAF) reports that the hybrid system, which can be played at home or on the go, "won't have many multimedia functions at launch." This information was sourced to a quote from Nintendo's Kit Ellis. "Don't plan to watch Netflix on the Switch, for instance," Business Insider said.

The Wii U and the 3DS have Netflix apps. As mentioned, it's possible that a Netflix app for the Switch could come later. We have followed up with Nintendo in an attempt to get more details.

I'm okay with not right at launch, but if it doesn't ever come (Looking at you PSTV) I will be pretty cross. In terms of multimedia, I only care for Netflix, I never care about anything else, on the PS4 only Netflix, on the 3DS, on the phone.

Not really important. I'm buying a videogame console, not an all-in-one device. If I wanted Netflix or any other streaming product, I would buy other product. I'm sure it will eventually come, though, so people who want it shouldn't worry much.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Not interested in netflix which is annoying as my tv remote has a large netflix button which I will never use. I can't imagine the lack of netflix influencing many people's decision whether to buy a Switch and it will more than likely appear later anyway.

Ah shit! Now I have to watch it on my PC...or PS3...or 360...or PS4...or XB1...or WiiU...

I don't think it's that big of an issue, but I still know a few folks that have yet to migrate to a smart TV.  I wonder how much more expensive it would be to have Netflix included.

This is definitely a bummer. I plan for Switch to replace my tablet when traveling and without Netflix, it will never do that. Hope it comes quick, cause I don't want to carry two tablets around.

hopefully it's not trash like the wii u version

Ha, ain't that the truth. Always found it funny that whenever something new was announced it woudl brag up Netflix or something. like everything doesn't have it anyway.

Kind of agree. While everything else in the tech world has netflix, so it's not hard to pop out my phone to watch or something, I do wish this had it. I'll have to see when this releases how I use it. But I could also have seen this being a replacement tablet for me. A decent internet and netflix and it could do that.

Be nice to have the OPTION to watch netflix on the plane instead of being game only. Though planes charge rediculous for wifi, so probably wouldn't anyway. So not sure how much I woudl use it. Never use Netflix on my tablet unless somewhere that I can wifi free, which isn't in car/plane/ect. So if I do, it's usually on my phone anyway. But don't really netflix away from home.

What was trash on teh Wii U? Only thing I hated was the fact that it played on both teh TV and tablet same time. Basically had to throw a blanket over the gamepad to not have some glaring light in the corner of my eye while watching. But other than that, I found it very good. Nice to control and navigate. Also the gamepad let yo ulook at things like cast and stuff while the movie was playing.

If Nintendo is really serious about the Switch becoming some kind of casual hipster console, this is kind of important.

It should come eventually, though. Netflix seems to work way slower than they should with getting apps on new products.
