Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rock Band for Wii: WTF?!

No the game took so long to port because they wanted to put in DLC they worked hard on it but it is currently impossible. If anyone is lazy it's Nintendo. Do you know how much money is loss without DLC? Even Nintendo can't put DLC in the're Wii yet.

Don't flame Rock Band.

I just bought a Wii yesterday, so I don't know the answer to this:

Do other Wii games really not have DLC? Does GH3-Wii have songs released as DLC?  Do other Wii games get new content (maps, characters, levels) via DLC?

If not, anyone blaming Rock Band (EA/Harmonix) and not Nintendo for the lack of DLC is not only a shameless fanboy but also a fucking idiot.

Obviously EA and Harmonix would love to release songs as DLC, they make a ton of money on it (6.5 million downloads already).  So if it's not happening, the blame is with Nintendo and the Wii.

And then you have to wonder how many other games are "gimped" not because of "lazy developers" but because of the limitations of the GameCube 2.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Um it is capable of DLC. FFCC:Mlak has been confiremed to get it, and multiple other games are coming with it. IT's EAs fault.

I just don't why online is such a big deal. I would rather play it with a friend than some freakshow I don't know online.

Because you can't always get four people together at one time.

And not all people that play online are 'freak shows'.  I don't get that.  Do you not play Brawl online?  I mean, you might get matched up with 'some freak show'.

And online is only one of the major gripes.  The other being DLC, which is a huge part of the game, as the 10 million nor so downloads on a game with >1 million userbase shows.  Also, no world tour mode?  So the whole aspect of making a band, and getting fans, playing at bigger venues is all lost.

It seems to me that lots of people want to downlplay how horrible of a game this port will be, rather than just realize that until Nintendo comes up with a solution for storing DLC, and about their lackluster online service, that game that utilize those things on the PS3 and 360 will be stripped for the Wii.  You should be mad at Nintendo, Harmonix.

no I do not play Brawl online. I play it when friends come over, I play single player a bit, I even play against computer sometimes for a warm up.... I guess I am just so used to playing smash w/ people in the room with me. To me that is most of the fun... beating my FRIENDS into a pulp : ). I would not get that kind of enjoyment playing someone online.

So RockBand is for you then, since you rather play games with people that are in the same room as you, versus playing with people online.

I must say though, that you are in the EXTREME minority of people.

I don't know many people at all that don't play games online.

Bigjon-

You realize the some people play with their friends online. PS3 and 360 are manageable friends list. They work. (PS3 to a lesser extent).

I play online with friends from school. You don't have to play "freak shows".

There are some ripe morons in this thread. There are even WIIWARE games with DLC, there are no excuses. Know this and get over it.

That said, if Square can swoop in and collect everyone's money with a wiiware game then clearly space is not an issue, it's an issue of developers to lazy or too stupid to take advantage of it. You hear people crying about space limitations but considering what few games out there are competently developed enough to effectively utilize money-stealing DLC it's clearly not an issue of the Wii's space being all gone when nobody is using it. But considering that this is a shoddy port of the crappy PS2 version I'm really not that surprised that the effort for DLC wasn't put into it.

MLAK is wiiware, Rock Band is not wiiware.  The I'm betting MLAK DLC would be under 10 megs.

NAME A NON WIIWARE GAME WITH DLC.  Of course WiiWare games are gonna get it because they are already downloaded, it may even be a 200kb file that unlocks DLC like Beautiful Katamari.  If EA wanted to do a lazt port (like most of their other games) this game would had came out 4 months ago with the 360/ps2/ps3.  The reason for the delay was because they wanted to put in DLC.

Shiren 3. I don't know when it comes out but Sega announced that it would have DLC in the form of downloadable dungeons ages ago. This is clearly not impossible or an issue of space. I'm a bit surprised that it's the Japanese developers jumping on this first since DLC typically comes from the American companies, then again the majority of the Wii's worthwhile 3rd party support has come from Japan.

And the game was 'delayed' because there was no Rockband Wii. They missed the Wii train and like many before them they scrampled together a sloppy port of the already gimped PS2 version.

How do you know this isn't an "issue of space" WiiWare does have a 40 MB limit ya know. And again SEGA could go Beautiful Katamari and make the download an unlockable 200kb file.

Obviously Nintendo didn't give a shit about DLC or WiiWare until they saw how well the ps3 and 360 are doing with them. Firmware upgrades can only do so much.

I'd even be happy if they sold the DLC offline, i.e. in the form of extra Discs or SD cards or something. But to not have it all together = fail.

And there's really no excuse for not having online play.

The cost is too high to do it offline.
