Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "Nintendo switch is too expensive"

Its not just that.

Switch - $299
Pro Controller - $70
Skyrim - $60

Just to play Skyrim, a half decade old game, you gotta shell out $430. You can say the pro controller isn't required, but looking at the joycons, they are not built for comfort or long play.

PS4-  $300

FFX/X2 remaster-  $50

Custom PS4 Controller- 70

Just to play Final Fantasy X, a nearly two decade old game, you gotta shell out 420 dollars.    You can say the custom controller isn't required, but despite having not used the standard PS4 controller, I'm pretty comfortable in saying that it's very unomfortable.

The Pro Controller is basically required for any kind of NES/SNES/GB/GBA/DS virtual console ... it's the only Switch control option that has a d-pad. That also kinda sucks.

Okay, I could be wrong about this, but one of the joy-con parts has a d-pad I thought.  One has face buttons and the other the d-pad.  Unless that's not how it works?  I mean, unless you're talking about playing virtual console games with only one joy-con thingy.

edit:

That's a d-pad on the left, right?

Nope, there's a N64 C-button style arrow buttons, they did this so in "detached 2-player" mode, both players have access to 1 analog stick + 4 face buttons.

To get a d-pad you're either going to have to buy the Pro Controller for $70 or wait until Nintendo releases a Joy Con with the D-Pad instead, which is probably another $50.

The Shield TV has the same chipset and costs $200 USD. There's no way a 6 inch 720p screen and the joycons cost $100, so the Switch is overpriced.

Those are regular buttons, identical to the ones on the right Joy-Con. They aren't the traditional Nintendo D-Pad.

But wasn't your point about playing virtual console games?  Or would they just register as face buttons instead?

That isn't a d-pad. That is 4 buttons in each direction. It would be impossible to play a fighting game like street fighter on that.

Wouldn't that make it so that the PSP doesn't have a d-pad either?

I don't know, you'll probably have to use the analog stick in lieu of the d-pad for VC stuff, which is not gonna work for me or a lot of others. Plus Street Fighter which I plan on getting, so yeah, Pro Controller is not an extra for me, it's a "have to" buy. I might actually have to buy two because I like to play 2-player VC at home too, lol, so I'm looking at $140 on 2 Pro Controllers.

It would be nice if Nintendo allowed the Wii U Pro Controller to work with the Switch, but I don't think they're going to do that.

The PSP used the same D-Pad as all PlayStation hardware. A "separated" cross. PS D-Pad aren't idividual buttons. They're tied together like any other traditional D-Pad. It's only on the surface of the controllers/handgeld that they look like they're idividual buttons.

it's not that what they want is bad, is that the switch offers other stuff. And just because the switch doesn't offer what they want that means the switch should cost less to manufacfture, cause there's other value on the system that costs money.

That`s merely a reason for the price. Doesn`t mean that people have to like or even agree with it and they`ve still got every right to complain about it.

but how are the complaints logical? this is exactly what I'm saying, it's not what you want but that doesn't mean that it should cost less. If they don't like the system and they have an opinion about the system and how the money should have been invested by nintendo to make the system, then I can respect that.

"I won't buy a ps4 because doesn't have nintendo games and that's not valuable for me, even if the ps4's tech cost money so needs to be cheaper!!" this is exaggerating, but it's the same, I'm complaining because the value of the ps4 is not what I'm looking on a console. And sounds dumb.
