Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo made a HUGE mistake when announcing their new paid online

They forgot to mention that you can lend your physical Switch games to your friends as much as you want. That knowledge would cleanly overshadow the fact they are now charging for what used to be free.

Poor Nintendo always making mistakes.

Next to the online situation, this mistake is like farting by accident after you've already shit the bed on purpose.

I'm a bit surprised to see the negativity about online, even though before, everyone basically complained about online and that Nintendo should be like Sony and Microsoft and step up their online

I believe Nintendo got the wrong idea though. They took the worst part of PS plus and Xbox Live without anything to show for it. Both Xbox Live and PS plus were both well established before they started charging for online. Nintendo still haven't proven that they can make a respectable online infrastructure and we're in 2017.

Wait they actually showed something? Care share with the rest of us what you know?  I mean if they got the wrong idea and you know that they took the worst elements.... well. Please share the deets :3

Also I'm pretty sure Xbox Live charged at launch. I know for a damn fact it had a subscription fee by the time Halo 2 launched.

It was bound to happen now or later.

When I say worst part, I'm referring to pay to play online. Also, no, Nintendo haven't shown much for their online offerings yet but we do know that they're already behind the curve when it comes to voice chat. That doesn't give me much hope for a console releasing soon from a company with no proven online network. My only hope is that their paid online service ends up being very cheap compared to PS plus and Xbox Live.

Can somebody please take this one? I'm so tired from posting today. It must be a new personal record.....Oh god...THEY SHOWED PLENTY. If you're asking for deets you should be more contrite, because the deets are why gaming forums are on fire.

I wouldn't exactly call paying for a "feature" to be the worst element. Otherwise that would be the worst element of everything we own or service or paid activity we engage in. If you want good online services, then you need to pay for the cost to run those services or the companies will bleed into the red. Good online infrastructure is expensive and I'll gladly pay Nintendo for a better online experience. You heard that they brought brand spanking new servers right? And you're aware that they plan to do something new with the online service. I have a feeling you will be disappointed if you think the price point will be "cheap". Though I've speculated that there might be two different price points which would be priced on features. Like most, I actually thought the online gaming aspect would be "free". But hey! Gotta pay for those shiny new servers some how.

Yeah, since you replied I'm sure you can take the ticket. Please outline the details of Nintendo's Online service. Outline what features it has and why the subscription fee is worth it. Also explain why the new voice chat method is so relevant to the system as a whole and why Nintendo thinks it's "forward" thinking?

If "plenty" was revealed please sell me on it's concept. Also since they "showed" it. Care to toss us all a link of where they physically showed us the online service? I don't recall seeing it at the conference specifically. Never saw any reports of it being demod on the show floor either.

PS. The sarcasm comes form answering this question on multiple sites over the course of the past couple days xD

If you quote me, make sure what I was referencing, your original post, is still visible.....So this is your original post "Wait they actually showed something? And this is part of the next one, in response to me. "

Then in the next, it's tell me why they got it right. Ha. I'm not a supporter, but I'll be sure to make use of my own personal ignore user function.

Yeah, actually online is free because after you are finished you can just give your game to your online friends and then they can play with it for free.

It's still worth thinking about though. Why are there so many PS fans that claim to be former Nintendo fans? One explanation is that they are lying. Another explanation is that they didn't get manipulated by Nintendo, changed alliance and then stuck with Sony through everything, no matter how bad; meaning they fall to manipulation by Sony's marketing, otherwise they would have switched consoles again.

Nintendo is rapidly losing customers when they do bad things; we can look at sales data for that. Sony doesn't suffer in the same way; the only time that things went really down south for Sony was with the Vita when they made an exit altogether.

There are former Nintendo fans because Nintendo let down a lot of fans with the WiiU.  Sony hasn't had a WiiU level screw up with a corresponding surge by another company, forcing a shift.  If Sony pulls a Wii U, people will leave.  There were some fans that went to the 360/Wii early in the PS3 life cycle and we obviously saw that reflected in the sales, but it wasn't on the same scale.

Oh exactly m'y case. I was on 360/Wii last gen and took à PS3 at thé end of its generation, and then à Vita and then à PS4.

While i was on GameCube/Xbox thé gen before that ans skipped PS2.

I really changed Because thèse 2 disappointed me à lot and i really miss Nintendo games from thé GameCube and N64 , thats why im happy about Mario Odyssey, im One of thé original fans who loved thé first true Mario 3D Nintendo gave UP since sunshine to make tasteless Mario games.

Also this Zelda seems much better than any other Zelda since Majora Mask ( i didnt like WW that much, It was à good game only, liked more or less TP, and really didnt like SS) so Maybe with this Switch Nintendo will Côme back to their good Era of inspiration, it would bé perfect for exemple for a Double Dash Mario Kart thé Switch coop system on One console.

So Switch is m'y most anticipated Nintendo console since GameCube, and im sûre ill but it at Mario release

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
