Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo Switch Selling Out Due To Intentionally Low Stock? Think Again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SEmO33srNk&t=0s

After watching this video, I think it made a lot of good points. Nothing giving you a fanboy vibe in this video, it just pointed out the truth of one topic that has had a lot of misinformation being spread based on peoples own assumptions in the YouTube community over the past few days. I agree with a lot of the points made in the video and wanted to know your thoughts on it.

According to Nintendo, there are 2 million units available for the first month after launch, more units will come, so it's no surprise they are outsold globally.

Yeah if people are saying Nintendo is understocking the Switch on purpose they'd have to say the same for PS4 and Xbox One at this point.

Didn't watch, but anyone saying intentional low stock is stupid.

The Wii was an insane surprise to everyone. Anyone would be low stocked for that. Add onto the fact it followed the Gamecube's low sales, it's no wonder the Wii was conservatively produced.

Same situation here. Look at the Wii U numbers. Do you really expect Nintendo to have like 10 million ready on day 1? They have no idea how this system will sell, and don't want ot risk financial ruin by making some insane number that never sells.

And that's not even getting into the actual financial real business world logistics of having large inventories on stock being not liked by companies and investors. And other factors that determine things.

This is the company that is notorious for understocked their products to create artificial demand. Anybody thinking that they won't understock their first set of preorders is kidding them selfs.

PS4 sold 1 million in less than 24 hours in the USA alone. No way where they understocking it. They sold every unit they could make

I didn't say they were understocking it, it fact the opposite as my point was that Nintendo are not understocking the Switch.

Thanks, now it makes sense.

The wii u sold just over 3 million for the launch period but then sales dropped off a cliff edge and didn't get to 3.5million until the end of the financial year. It was generally considered that Nintendo fans had bought the console with great enthusiasm at the beginning but it couldn't find a wider audience for the product after the launch and sales numbers were from then on quite low. Here in the UK the launch numbers for wii u were only 40,000 for December.

I think the wii u had a big advantage of launching before Christmas though which is important in many regions.

I don't really know much about other regions but the vibe I'm getting in the uk is that it will fail horribly. UK like most of Europe is very keen on Playstation products and unlike mainland Europe Xbox is a big important brand too.

I just can't take this. Yes, he is trying to make some point somewhere down the line, but leading up to that point he is working with such bad numbers that I stopped before the halfway point. The Wii U did not sell through just north of 3m units in its first two months.

About 2.3MM. Switch having 2MM at first month is great.
