Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will the Nintendo Switch make it to 20 million?

Would be tough for it to reach 20 mil in Japan these days, probably not.

Nobody really knows. If it gets the best Japan support any console or handheld has ever seen it may come close to 20 mil. I don't see it selling over 20 mil. Handhelds are declining in Japan, so unless Nintendo can some how get all of those mobile games that are so popular in Japan onto Switch, It will most likely struggle more than the WiiU.

It's funny that after PS4 success, people still think a console can depend so much on one region. Japan won't save Switch just like US won't save Xbox.

It'll sell more than 20 million by the end of 2018.

After the presentation I would have agreed with you, however I'm not so sure it's going to sell as poorly as some people have predicted. There appears to be a strong demand for it in N.A for the most part as we've seen in recent news regarding the preorders selling out so quickly. Even across Europe it seems to be doing well and the demand is there. At this point it looks like it's launch week in U.S at least will be bigger thab PS4's if Nintendo can meet demand.

Oh boz, tagging this for the future.Going to be fun to read these kinds of predictions.

switch not making it to 20 mil is more realistic than switch making it to 100 mil. but yeah, both predictions are terrible tbh

If Nintendo can support demand throughout the rest of the year, I expect the Switch to reach half of that this year alone. Realistically speaking, the console will be in short supply worldwide for quite some time, and it will reach sales between 5 and 10 million before this year's end. It will sell 2 million during its launch week alone.

I can only guarantee that it will make it to 1.

I think 20 million by holiday 2018 is very doable. Maybe even within one year of release. Remember this system is launched in more countries in the world than any Nintendo platform before it and is completely 100% region free. So yeah... I don't think selling the thing will be hard as long as Nintendo can keep up with the demand through production which seems to be detailed in their plans.

One thing I think a lot of "Nintendo fans" need to understand is that Iwata strived for a smaller company and he worked hard to keep things more private and controlled. He was a great guy but he ran the company in a very conservative manner. Kimishima seems to want to bring the "Big Red" Nintendo back from the 90's. I think you can expect the company to be bigger with much more marketing in the future. More corporate deals. Even Reggie's tone and approach seems a little more mass appealing. I don't think we'll be seeing small scale production and products held back. I think the idea for that was to make sure all the products made are sold. Keeping demand higher to ensure more units sold.

I don't doubt the potential of sales that this console can have. I'll be a little shocked doesn't at least surpass 40-60 million world wide.
