Forums - Gaming Discussion - Adjusted for inflation, Switch costs the same as launch as Wii (in US)

They should have just had the console come with a downloadable WiiU port. Maybe you could choose between a few that would be easy to port like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, New Super Mario Bros U etc.

While I personally own all those games, it's a great way to sweeten the deal.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

"You don't get a packed in game with Switch" but you're going to make up with that by adding a second gimmick controller?

Doesn't work like that. Wii sports was a great game. It sold the system. It sold motion control.

And when compared to (a month ago) $200 consoles that come with a game and an actual controller - it is very, very expensive. Specially when you consider that the xb1/and ps4 are powerful. There is no fear of them missing out on games.

Dat no Dpad do.....that does suck.

You are saying the price is the same. Except we can't play it without buying a game for additional cost with it to actually play it. I find it harder to buy this today as the inflation happened to everything along the way to living expenses. Cars, insurance, food, internet, and everything everywhere all the F'en over is costing more. Transporting consumes fuel and raises manufacture costs. The billion other things raise prices anyone making a penny under the middle average (yearly $) get pinched and put thru the wringer.

The difference is that the Wii was $150 cheaper than the competition and came with a pack in game. This time around the Switch costs just as much as the other systems, and doesn't come with a free game. After you factor in a free Uncharted 4, the PS4 is $240. So Nintendo is asking $300 for old outdated tech, when Sony and MS are asking $240 for current gen tech.

What do people not understand?!?! Nintendo isn't using old outdated tech. This tech at the very oldest is from 2013 (which I highly doubt it is, prob newer). It's customized from top of the line Nvidia parts.

How does it compare to 3DS and Vita at launch?

No one had to adjust for inflation when the Wii's price was revealed.

We do expect mid-tier tech to be cheaper nowadays.

I remember paying 200$ for 8MB of EDO-RAM.

Irrrrrrrrrrelevant! All consumers care about is whether or not they deem the price of the Switch to be worth it, and much of that inherent value comes from comparing it to the competition. The Wii was much cheaper than its competitors, the Switch is more expensive. That alone can make people feel the switch is too expensive even if Switch fans can mentally justify the cost because of its features.

Sure, the Switch is "portable" and features "HD rumble", but those features are only worth the cost it adds to the system if people value those features. People are saying they don't see those features as being worth the cost to implement them especially considering that they can get other systems without those features they don't care about for cheaper.

The PS4 slim is like 270$ atm on amazon.

If you take out 60$ for the game, thats like 210$.

The Switch is more expensive than its competition, its not the same price.

Also if your into digital download content, you ll need a 250 GB microSD card (70$?) ontop.

You might also want a "normal" controller, thats another 70$.

You probably have cable, so you ll need a ethernet adaptor, thats another 30$.

The switch is more expensive than the PS4 or XB1.
