Forums - General Discussion - So how can anime be saved?

Too much stuff is cancelled after the 1st season, which is really sad.

Outside of the big ones, there aren't many with a 3rd season, even when the manga continues. The studios rather try it with a new one to see if they get the next big hit.

There is no need?

Anime just like movies, tv shows, etc. will always have good and bad things, some better, some worse than others. Is dumb to say that every anime from the past was great and viceversa.

And of course it all depends on taste and what genres you like, which they have plenty of each.

But they aren't making the anime I watched when I was younger though.

Why aren't they making the anime I watched when I was younger though.

I think anime is doing fine. There'll always be hits and misses. I mean, Your Name appears to have been given praises up to the heavens and is nominated for an Academy Award for best animated movie, which you don't see often from an anime movie.

Hopefully I'll be surprised by upcoming new series. I'm looking forward to the new Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card series as well as season 3 of Code Geass (both made by Clamp coincidentally :P). I also hope to get more into DB Super. Plus Pokémon Sun and Moon is promising to me (after watching a great series in XY/Z) as the new layout of the animation makes it more free flowing which looks good in motion.

Anime has always been a broad medium from the absurd to the profound.  I'm fine with it and enjoy improvements in hand drawn animation as the west seems to have largely given up on the artform.

Yeah I totally agree, I was sorta teasing the nostalgia crowd. I think there is shift to make certain genres more popular that the OP might not care for, but in terms of variety, I'm enjoying much more than ever. This season alone is good evidence of that.

I still need to finish Keijo. I didn't love it, but it was still better than I was expecting, given what it was.

It can't

because it doesn't need to

I think some people seem to want a one dimensional focus on shounen battle anime.  Never mind that anime has always been diverse, with plenty of ecchi, harem, romance, and comedy series, not to mention Magical Girl anime and content aimed at kids--it just didn't make it out of Japan as often, so some people think it didn't exist.  People also forget all the crap anime that used to be produced.  Quality has improved greatly across the board.

Personally, I think it would absolutely suck if everything suddenly became Naruto in different settings.

The real answer is Spice and Wolf Season 3. Since Code Geass S3 is happening, then it can finally come. It is time.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Yeah, it is the same issue many mediums deal with where "popular X" does not equate to "all of X".
