Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Real Talk, Can ARMS become the The Next Big Thing for Nintendo? Both Casual and Competitive (Like SSB/Splatoon Big?)

Real Talk is back? Did you obtain the rights for this famous VGC show of the old days, tbone?

Yes because its the nintendo version. (I forgot this was a thing!)

I highly doubt it will become an e-sport. Arms being sucessful depends on how well Nintendo sold the thing. Splatoon was sucessful because of the accesibility of the game, because it was a twist in a popular genre, and because it was really well marketed. I think Arms has potential too. But only time will tell us.

Well Arms in the fighting genre isnt a radical change like splatoon did to shooters but i do think arms (because of motion controls and from what im seeing in gameplay) has enough change that it could be a big competitive thing on its own.

We do need to see more however. If nintendo can push the game i can see it

It's not, but it's a twist nevertheless. In a way that there's really no fighting game like it. That's a very Nintendo-like way of doing things actually. But Nintendo has to push the game, it has potential.

I highly doubt it.

Which both? Sales and Competitive

Both. I just don't see it having that kind of appeal.

I can see it being big because I got that same impression of pure fun from ARMS that I got from Splatoon when I saw gameplay for it. It should be easy to advertise too because the gameplay by itself looks fun at first glance and has depth, it seems easy to get into, the motion controls can lure in casuals, normal controls can lure in core gamers and the portability of the Switch can boost word-of-mouth advertisement. Right now, it seems like the only questions are if Nintendo will advertise it aggressively and  the amount of content that's going to be in the game. If the game ends up having 12 or so unique characters, more loadout options, a single player campaign and good online options along with a good advertising push similar to  Splatoon, I can see it taking off and becoming a new big IP for Nintendo. In fact, the only thing I don't like about the game so far is the name: ARMS. I mean, couldn't they come up with a name with more punch than that?

If the game gets big, it will probably gain a competitive scene by default.

Here is a link to a IGN article talking about high level competitive play for ARMS. Your welcome.

Interesting. Odd they didn't bother mentioning this in the trailer or the demos.

I'm digging this game's style. It's got a real Dreamcast sort of charm about it. This is the kind of stuff I miss. Hope it's good.

They should have put a "Z" at the end.  ARMZ.  Yeah... that's the stuff.

The focus on motion controls and revealing it right after 1-2-Switch probably hurt this game a lot, as many people are writing it off as motion control gimmick garbage. Also this game looks lacking in content, features, and gameplay variety, plus how popular is the boxing genre? I think it can sell well but probably not a major hit and definitely not an eSport.

Im so going to make a prediction thread in the near future lol. Also no offense but its just a first look. I mean how many times does nintendo show off something and reveal even 10% of what it is? Its not guarteed but this game might have more to it than just what they shown
