Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why on earth doesn't the Switch have camera's?

The way things were set up by Nintendo (look at their online service), it's pretty clear that they are pushing all kinds of smart device functionality on the phones that people already have. All that Switch is left with is gaming.

This.

I mean I have heard that we can expect no Netflix or Youtube even on the Switch. And as usual, we have never been able to pop in dvd's or anything for a movie.

It is purely a gaming machine.

Cause the camera on the 3ds and vita sucked and it would just take more battery away and increase the already high price...

this

I don't trust Nintendo and their cameras, unless they went for Nokia's imaging devices (rip) or swallowed their pride and went straight at Sony top of the line sensors. Even then, software plays a large part in imaging, too.

Umm... What do you mean by swallowing their pride? And what does that have to do with Sony electronics?

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

The NSA is asking the same question.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

I wasn't thinking when I typed this. I meant that working with Sony to make a good camera-line of thinking.

Having a good sensor and lens isn't everything, after all. You still need good software.

Even if it came with a decent camera, there's no point in it. It'll simple add onto the costs and take up space that could be used for a bigger battery or something more useful.

How many people used the camera on the 3ds or Wii u? Let's be honest, only 1% of people probably used it just to mess around with it.

Well, when you're an electronic manufacturer, you're eventually going to hook up with someone who want's to buy your electronics. Like Nintendo, for example, buying screens from Sony to a Nintendo DS.

Not sure if Sony was the right partner to develope a camera.

Hey, they make good sensors for their phones and dedicated camera line-up. Of course, there are many others out there, but I just happened to use them as an example.

This. I can already see Ninty selling special Mario-themed duck tape for $50 a roll to people absolutely wanting to obtain an all-in-one device.
Well, actually not to everybody, American gamers will be only offered Reggie's Shiny Chin-themed duck tape for $60 a roll.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

TGS, Third Grade Shooter: brand new genre invented by Kevin Butler exclusively for Natal WiiToo Kinect. PEW! PEW-PEW-PEW!

Very dumb decision imo.

Cause it's a useless feature. I'm glad they did so to keep the cost down low.
