Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why on earth doesn't the Switch have camera's?

So here's the deal. Last year Nintendo launched their first mobile game in the form of Pokemon Go wich uses (a very simple form of) AR. It became a worldwide rage. You would think they would embrace AR and couldn't wait to create a high quality  full price version of that game for their next mobile device right?Wrong! The Switch doesn't have a single camera. So no AR, no video chat, no fun video editing, nothing. I mean a tablet without camera's, really?

Can someone please explain how this happened?

Eh, i'm okay with no camera. I used the gamepad camera a total of once when making my Mii, and nothing else. I heard the video chat was good, but eh, I can use Skype or something else. And on my 3DS, AR was a distraction for 30 mins, but not much more. If it drives down costs, i'm fine without it.

I assume it was a cost-driven choice. Packing that much power into this little thing must have costed so much they had to remove the possibility of cameras.

Because it's a waste of resources. There is no real usage on the handhelds and there is no real usage on the Wii U. So, getting rid of it is a good thing imo.

This is such a small complaint in comparison to all the bigger problems of the system. If you enjoy the DS camera man than fine but we don't need a camera for the system.

What happened to the Switch main feature being vr? Did they dump that idea to go with motion controls instead?

number of times i used wii u camera... never... really... i do not see a point of it having a camera and would cost more for them to use...

oh 3ds camera... once then forgot about it and just made my pikachu look like it has black nipples

Nobody I knew that played the game even used the AR

On top of that WHO THE FUCK USES THE CAMERA ON THEIR TABLET?? I mean aside from the Asians at the zoo.

Because they don't want people taking porno pics and saving it to an SD card then when a used one shows up at Gamestop parents complain.

I did think they'd include one to allow for a port of Pokemon Go, but it seems like they're content to leave that style of game on the smartphone/tablet.
