Wii U also had a 500,000 waiting list and then when it released it only sold 320,000 the first 2 months. Just saying.

Where did you get that false information?

WiiU sold 2.3MM in Nov/Dec 2012, the first two months it launched.

To put this in contrast.

WiiU sold 810K in its first month (nov 2012), then another 1.5MM in its 2nd month for 2.3M total in two months.

NS is very likely to do this in March alone assuming Nintendo does hit/exceed its 2MM target for March and 100% of initial batch sales through.

Yeah, and Zhuge is known for getting number correct.

You have to look at this differently. This is mainly in response to people who didn't think this would sell out. The other point I'd like to make is that the Wii U sold out during the christmas rush, which this system is not in, since it's coming out in March. It further lines up with people who thought that launching in March would be a bad idea. Though I'm sure it's the Nintendo core picking these up, I'd consider myself a core Nintendo gamer yet, I'm not gonna pre-order one, I'll get it when I get it.

Pent up demand from people wanting something that isn't the Wii U, first 6-8 weeks should be massive. This is why I don't understand those who think it'll sell only a few million for the entire CY. First shipment will disappear right away, the real question is what happens after the dust has settled and slow season sets in, that's the real test.

Well, the Wii U only had a good month: launch. By Dec 2012 was already in alarming numbers, so I think we may have a better pic of the situation for the Switch at April 2017.

I disagree..... The Wii u has had a barren wasteland of a line up last year.... I suspect the majority of pre orders are coming from Wii u Nintendo core guys.....

Well, I never said that these folks weren't Wii U owners... I think a lot of them are. With a system that is likely owned by more or less only hardcore fans, it's very likely that a good amount of these will jump directly into the next console that releases. Wii U should finally officially be dead once the Switch hits, still can't believe that my, to some, shockingly low lifetime estimates were still too high.

Pavolink; good point, but given the Wii U's awkward position in the market and the fact there's still confusion on whether or not this is actually also the 3DS successor, paired with the whole concept being something new and different, I think we still need more time and regular trends to properly make a judgement on its potential in the long run.

That's not too shabby, eh?

To be honest it doesn't really mean anything.

Wii U had similar/better numbers at GameSpot for pre-orders.

There are 2-3 million Nintendo super-hardcore (these are 28-year-olds that are lined up outside a Best Buy at 7 AM to get Amiibo), also Nintendo has conditioned that base to expect undershipment, so that crowd mobilizes these days very aggressively.

What sales are like in May/June/July/August are going to likely be a much better barometer.

The 3DS sold like shit to start but managed to sell 60m+. If it fails for those months you mentioned Nintendo can make drastic changes to pricing and bundles and still turn things around. I wouldnt write it off until after we see what they are willing to do and what affect that has on sales.

I'm thinking the 2mm number is just PR put out to ensure that they exceed the fake expectations.

There is absolutely no way that Gamestop would get 25% of the world's supply, unless Nintendo has allotted 75% of it to the US. I can say that with confidence because Walmart exists, and would sink Nintendo if they were sold out, but other retailers got a larger share of the US pie.
