Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Lacks Pack-In Title Because It's $299, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

Each hour that passes the more I'm getting WiiU/Xbox one level messy as hell launch vibes.

It comes with two HD rumbling Joycons.

Its just rumble. Can't believe how hard they're hyping it.

Me either.  Sony improved the rumble in the DS4 by making it two analog motors, instead of one analog and one digital.  It's how they pull off the feeling of the robots inside your controller in Playroom.  Still, they aren't hyping it like you HAVE to have it.

Looks like Nintendo is telling us it's cheap, so either they're lying or slightly delusional.

I can't lie though, the presentation for it was so good it impressed me for a second until I said to myself "wait... its just fucking rumble."

Regardless of what Reggie says, they really should have bundled 1,2 Switch with the console, especially when it shows off the potential of the tech in those joy cons, even at a loss. Really missed opportunity here.

Same here.  Then, I saw its implementation in games.  Counting ice and balls?  I doubt many will even use it for games.  Also, the way they describe it makes it not seem so great.  You basically just feel the rumble travel through the controller, with slightly stronger rumble when the "ice/ball"  hits either side.  Kinda neat, but not practical for much.

It should come with something for that price

It comes with two HD rumbling Joycons.

This the same argument I keep having in my head.

1-2-Switch looks like a cheap pack-in game. Easily. Yet it is not. But then I re-look at the tech in the console. Its fantastic.

The fact that we get 2-player out of the box (for most games, likely) and the tech that is in the joycons alone is amazing. Hell, I'm happy they went with built-in batteries, something MS still can't figure out how to do.

I guess I was just too stuck on the idea that it "should" cost $250, regardless of what is actually in hardware. THis is a great peice of tech. Awesome controllers, touchscreen, NFC, likely the best rumble tech in the industry, very interesting IR camera (really want to see what comes of this)... etc.

The more I look, the more I realize $300 is a good price, but definitely a top-end of the value I see in the system. I still don't get the dock. That is really the only thing I am completely at a loss to understand.

This might sound crazy, but I dont even think this is the real launch. March is gonna be a soft opening, for the hardcore Ninty fans that they know will buy this for whatever price with no game packed in. The fall will be the launch for everyone else. Online will be up, they'll probably either cut the price or package it with a game. I dont think its a bad idea, ill just wait till then
