Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Which MicroSD card to buy for Switch

Hey, with the talk of the Nintendo Switch accepting Micro SDXC cards and up to 2tb in size, I was curious as to what is the best one to get (value/price)

It appears that 256 is basically the max available. It's spendy, so 128 is probably the best bet value wise. Like price differenc of near $200 vs $50.

But then you get into the technical stuff. Like the read/write speeds. Do we have any tech ideas on the switch. Is there a limit on what they read at, or what speed do games read data at. I don't want a card that is limiting. Some cards have read speeds of like 40 and others like in the 90's.  That is a big difference in speed. But no point in spending more money if the Switch caps out at 30 or 40 or something. I know some phones that do.

For example the Samsung line of cards has like a Pro series, an evo+ and Evo Select and so on series of cards at various sizes.

So for those out there looking to digitize their games on Switch and purchase an microSD card for that purpose, what does the tech savy people say?

buy a 64GB, it will be plenty enough for at least a few years if you don't buy big games like Zelda on the eshop.

Most eshop only titles are 1 or 3 GB. And VC titles are really small.

I have a 32GB WiiU, and I have only a 32GB usb stick, all my digital games are installed on it besides Tekken Tag 2 (17GB and it's a crappy game so ) I have at least 20 digital games, plus all the DLC installed for Smash, Splatoon, Mario Kart (I don't own Smash DLC, but wether you own them or not you have to install them), the 2GB of GHlive etc.

Trust me 64GB is plenty enough. Also, buy a decent brand, not a noname from china.

I have this one ready for when I get my Switch

Should fit a few games and VC easily.

Buy a fast one 90 MB/s, you don't want to get stuck with 10 or 30 MB/s read speeds. The whole point of cards is to improve loading times. That's U3 (with the 3 inside the U)

128GB should be enough if you go physical. More than that is too expensive. You can find a 128gb card for 40€.

500 TB should be fine, but that is for Wii U standards.

I have about 340 games on Wii U now and am nowhere near 500 gb yet. But if the Switch ends up being our handheld as well as console and it gets a lot of good games then a 1T would be the safe route.

Assuming they learned a lesson from the Wii U. It seems the did to some extent.

Go 1TB.

That's fine by all standards even PCs.

My Galaxy S7 came with a free Samsung 128gb Evo microsd so I will probably use that one.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I was thinking 256, but after seeing the price, Im going to stick with the 128.Since Im mostly physical, it should keep me busy for a long while.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
