Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Odyssey is successor Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine, not to Galaxy and 3D Land/World

I've been saying for years Nintendo should make a modern successor to Mario 64, glad to see they're finally acknowledging my genius suggestions and repeated angry letters attached to bricks thrown through the windows of Tokyo EAD. :D

Is this a Mario 64 successor or Mario Sunshine successor, because I feel those two are very different games.

Already seems to be much more of a 64 sequel to me; it actually has variety in its worlds, one of the main things Sunshine lacked. Also, you're not playing as a freaking janitor. XD

I don't care what Nintendo says this classification is bonkers. The Galaxy games felt like Mario 64. The Galaxy games are the best.

Mario64 is way more exploration based, Galaxy games are course based. Galaxy and 64 are widely different imo, so I understand that Ninty clasification perfectly.

About what will be this game HUB, I also felt that the city was too big to be a level, so I felt it could be the HUB. Also, yeah, I'm glad that the levels seem more varied than Sunshine at least.

Honestly, aside from Breath of the Wild, Odyssey looks like one of the most promising Nintendo games in many years for me, as it suggests Nintendo might be moving away from the more conservative approach that defined (and IMHO limited) most of their Wii U projects and starting to invest some actual ambition in their first party software again.

I see Mario Galaxies in Odyssy aswell. That ship Mario has is a big reminder of Galaxies. Instead of a space travel ship, it seems to be a dimension wrap ship.

But odyssey is just mario64+sunshine clone. Ambition would be like zelda botw or ffxv or splatoon. Copying past installment is not ambition

Sooner or later you'll return to the herd.

By the way, wasn't there something about you admitting something when Zelda will be confirmed for a Wii U release one final time?

It looks like I was wrong about that, and if/when it does come out, I'll take a month's ban as agreed.

Odyssey's more elaborate levels are more ambitious than the very simplistic levels of 3D World.

A ban for a month? Do you have a link to the thread where this insanity was conceived?

Nah, but its fine, I'll just use that month to play BotW uninterrupted on an amphetamine drip and wearing an adult diaper.

Makes sense. It does seem more like Sunshine and Mario 64, rather than the Galaxy and 3D games. Those felt kind of like linear obstacle course stages, while this feels like a big space 3D platformer like Mario 64 and Sunshine.
