Forums - Nintendo Discussion - DF: Mario Odyssey , Splatoon 2 runs at 720p + Zelda analysis

Splatoon 2 won't be out for 6-7 months so plenty of time to fix up some things. We go through this every year. Wonderful 101 blocky characters..few months later blocky characters gone. Xenoblade X shown at E3 2015 and a month before release new video shows many improvements including an entire mountain range not there before.

What people don't get is a demo of a game still in development is an old build already. The demo you saw is maybe a 1-2 month old build. Don't get upset til we are upon release.

Oh no, games that are still months away are not perfectly optimised yet? That's so terrible!

Just look at Zelda: It runs at a higher resolution at a more stable frame rate on Switch and it definitely looks better than the Wii U version.

I just love how hardcore gamers cannot see the appeal of the Switch yet my friends (who don't care about GFLOPS) are all over it. It reminds me of the Wii days.

Edit: Watching the video right now and at 5:40 the DF guy says Mario Kart's resolution goes from 720p (Wii U) to 1080p on Switch.

You say that it's something positive. It's a shame that Zelda looks worse on the Wii U. It's a shame that Zelda have huge dips on both versions. It's a shame when Nintendo proposing Switch as a home console and not a 3ds successor.

For me as a future Switch owner it's great news, yes. (In the DF video they said "you get a 2.5x GPU boost", I guess that was docked Switch over Wii U?). I get that people who own a Wii U might be disappointed though. As for the dips: I just watched the DF video on Zelda and they said the Switch version has literally no dips at all (there was one single instance in which the framerate dropped and another one which was probably a recording issue). And we don't know about the Wii U version, as we haven't seen a recent build of that.

Zelda: 900p/30 fps docked, 720p undocked

14:54 - 15:04 of that video: Link drowns after 10 seconds swimming???

I hope he gets better at swimming later in the game.

Quick, everyone care!

However, they do echo what I have been saying all along. Hand held with TV out. It will and should get hand held support as well. It is embarrassing to see so many people in denial about what this console really is. Hand held!

Nintendo denies it too. But the Switch with an optional dock, a better battery, simpler controllers for an overall cheaper price as an official new handheld would have a way better reception. But they don't want to announce that they leave the home console market, even if it's really dangerous for their product.

It looks amazing. Move on.

Either poor optimization, or the Switch is less powerful than I thought. Hopefully the former.

If Nintendo, who are gods amongst men about getting the most out of substandard hardware can't optimize for this thing properly, what hope does any other developer have? I mean it's not like we're talking about something as strange and complex as the CELL processor in the PS3. Nintendo is working directly with nVidia, who have used this chip (or at least chips in its family) in their own portable game hardware for years now. They really should be getting a lot out of the hardware right from the get-go.

Which points to option #2
