Forums - Sales Discussion - The Nintendo Switch will sell less than the Wii U...

Will it sell less than the Wii U?

Yes. This thing is looking to be a flop 133 17.85%

No, but it'll still sell like shit 229 30.74%

No, it'll sell very well... 323 43.36%

It'll outsell the PS4 an... 60 8.05%

Total:745

I'm calling it, after all the crap Nintendo pulled off yesterday, I'm calling it. $300 for a console that is weaker than the XB1 and PS4; doesn't have a decent launch lineup (4 games so far?), has overpriced accessories, has only 32GB of storage; demands that you pay for using their "online" service, and the stupid ass gimicks. I mean really, did they think this thing would be a hit? I mean look, 80 3rd party games in development... but we hear nothing about those games. Probably because there is no guarentee they'll even be coming. Just look at what EA did as an example: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=224568&page=7#1

So yeah, "unprecidented" support indeed. And why are you launching this in march if you DON'T HAVE THE GAMES! Look, I expect a strong first month. And then everyone will be so happy because it didn't flop. Then the second month comes, and it'll almost certainly crash down into flames. The only thing saving this thing from this is a 70-80$ price cut, and I just don't see it happening. Nintendo, what have you done...

Edit: I don't think people are paying attention to my last comment. IF WE SEE A PRICE DROP, I SEE THIS AS UNLIKELY. Of course anything is still possible, but with current trends, I'm keeping it this way. Also, Nintendo said this was a "home console". If this is replacing the 3DS as well, then it probably will sell more than the Wii U...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Nonesense. A new Zelda and portability alone are a bigger hook than anything the WiiU had when it launched. Not to mention the portable library is now gonna come out for the Switch so If you want a new Pokemon or Fire Emblem or Monster Hunter youre gonna have to own a Switch. Tho I do not think the Switch is gonna be a huge commercial success, specially because of the price, but I def. don't think its gonna be as much of a failure as the WiiU was.

So wait, this is replacing the 3DS as well?

Not happening. Pokemon and Zelda are enough to propel it past the Wii U, and probably well past it. Most of the coverage the platform is getting outside of gaming websites is much more positive than the Wii U got.

60-80 million full life, including the "pro" version launched in '19 and the more modest skus (no charging dock and joysticks).

Eventually, yes.

Geez man. I dunno. I sure hope not. Sure Nintendo has to do something to make this more appealing over the next few years. I mean consistent price cuts alone should allow it to sell more than the Wii U.

... but I'm not convinced this is a 3DS replacement, and I'm not convinced 3DS games are coming to the Switch. There was nothing in the presentation to indicate that.

Kind of hard to say, actually. With both the handheld and home console software teams merged together, I'm sure it will outsell the Wii U.

No, it'll definitely sell better than the Wii U. I do expect it to be a slow burner, though.

with a pokemon and animal crossing game releasing i doubt it will sell less then the WiiU. i dont think you understand how incredibly low the WiiU sold. i still think it will sell horribly oustide of japan.
