The amazing thing about the Switch is that Nintendo should have enough games already developed or in development for it that they could have at least one big game (including ports) releasing every month for all of 2017.

For example, in any random order these games could release any month outside of confirmed dates:

March: Zelda
April: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
May: Arms
June: Splatoon 2
July: Pikmin 4
August: Smash Bros. Switch Port
September: Super Marip RPG X Rabbids
October: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (apparently coming out in 2017)
November: Pokemon Stars
December: Super Mario Odyssey

Not to mention 3rd Party games or 3rd party exclusives.

So the Switch should have an amazing first year with a new zelda, a new 3D mario, pokemon, and more all in it's first year.  All those games each month should keep the sales consistently good.

So I expect the Switch will sell very well for 2017.

I think it's possible. But I don't think Arms will be a huge seller. I just can't see its appeal tbh.

Personally I hope Arms is a big seller, I think it looks like a really interesting new IP that could be a lot of fun. I could see it being the next Splatoon where people thought it wasn't gonna sell well or be that good but it comes out and blows everyone away. Plus I really like seeing Nintendo coming out of the gates with a brand new IP right at the start of a new console launch.

To me it really looks like an evolution of Punch Out.

My guess;

2017
March - April = Successful, Core Nintendo fans will buy in quickly.
May - Spetember = Dramatic slow down. Can't compete with $249.99 PS4/XBOS
October - December = Decent, but still 3rd place (week to week). Will be cut to $249.99, but PS4/XBOS will see $199.99 deal.

Total sales between 5 and 8 million.

The price says: buy a PS4 with 1 or more AAA games instead and wait for the huge pricedrop...

I think Splatoon sold well because it was a Nintendo take on online shooters, which is now a popular genre. Arms looks gimmicky and wonky to be a decent fighting game imo. I hope I'm wrong though.

I think it's going to do very well. Japan will LOVE it. The 3DS market is going to eat it up.

Nintendo screw it with the price imo. So I'd say about 6M this year.

Well if they can muster up the energy to ship 6M that is...

I agree with you, Japan will adore it. So many Japanese developers on board, the Dragon Quests, Splatoon, Mario... For the rest of the world, I'm not sure though...

It's going to bomb.
I don't know about this year, because we can't really predict stock and everything.

But previously I thought the console would sell 35 millions lifetime, now I'm thinking more like 25.

Maybe if third party support gets better in the west and if the price of the system goes down, it will sell more.

But with what know today? 25 mil LT, tops.

Genuine question, are they still supporting the 3DS? Or is the Switch a direct replacement for both the Wii U and 3DS? So a future main series Pokemon game will release on it. If so, they when that does release then they'll win something.

Hmm, pie.
