Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2017 PS4 VS SWITCH.

Which system will sell the most in 2017

Ps4 468 77.87%

Switch 93 15.47%

XBOX!!! 40 6.66%

Total:601

That price point is going to make it real hard for Nintendo to have a shot at the casual market. I'd say PS4:XB1:Switch will sell in the ratio of about 4:2:1.

you are kidding yourself if you think the Switch is going to outsell the PS4 for that length of time.

Yeah same people said that to me when I said Splatoon would sell more than 2 million before years end. Or when I said Revolution would sell over 50 million. When I said Nitro (DS) would sell better than GBA. I seem to always be kidding myself huh. Also just saying it's possible, not a definite. Same as I said in years past. When Wii U launched I thought maybe it could match Gamecube at best and I was off there.

Well yeah you're kidding yourself when you say switch could beat PS4. Lol mabye one month but thats it.

An absolutely epic new Mario and Zelda, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart Deluxe, Skyrim, ARMS, Fifa, Just Dance, Lego City Undercover, etc all in a very appealing console that happens to be the most powerful handheld until date, that also works like a homeconsole and has some awesome technology on those Joycons that are able to make things the others cant, on  top of that it has a brilliant marketing so far, this will be a very succesful gift for holidays, young gamers and more casual audiences will love it and holidays is when they buy in mass.

The Wii U has/had Mario Kart, Splatoon, Mario and Zelda games. Nobody cared about it then, I don't think the broad audience will suddenly love it. Outside of the Nintendo fans, no, Zelda and Mario are not exceptional games: everybody knows the names, but the families won't run in the stores to buy the latest Zelda. Skyrim is like other games, a late port, no real interest. It won't be nearly enough to compensate the usual marketing storms used by the big hitters like CoD, Battlefield, RDR2, maybe Destiny 2, and all the other big popular games the publishers like to launch at this moment, which won't launch on the Switch.

The fact that it's also an handheld won't be that big either IMO, it's just a tablet you can plug to your TV, it shouldn't impress anyone. And it's not a great handheld because of the battery, the 3DS is still a way better deal if you want to offer an handheld to your kids (and it has tons of games).

The worst part is the price. You can buy today a PS4 with a game at 300€, or even less (and like I said, there will most likely be a price cut before the holidays). With the Switch, it's at least that (and even 330€ here, in France), without any game, without the real controller (nor the ethernet adapter). It's simply too expensive to be competitive. Less powerful, way fewer games, no user base, but more expensive just because you can play a couple of hours with it as an handheld. A lot of people won't care about that enough to erase all the previous points. Why would you spend more money to buy that instead of the sure, popular and cheaper choice, if you're not a Nintendo fan? Nintendo will need to do a price cut too if they want a chance to win the holidays. But we know how Nintendo likes to keep their launch price...

I´m sorry but that is just a bunch of poor arguments, i dont even know where to beggin with, but let´s make a sinopsis, Wiiu was not appealing and most people didnt know what it was until years after, the early line up was very wealk with nothing even close to things like Splatoon 2, BoTW, Mario Kart or Mario Oddissey, but this thing will have all those pretty soon, this thing is very appealing and has a very clear and great marlketing that everybody understands. This has nothing to do with WiiU, and no, it doesnt last 2 hours, it goes up to 6.5 hours and the average would be like 3-5 hours, just like the Vita or the first 3DS which was pretty successful, this is not a direct competitor for the Ps4 so the price and power comparison is irrelevant specially when the general public dont care about it, thats why 3ds sold more than Vita or Iphones sell more than more powerful and cheaper mobiles, but in any case as a handheld this thing is a monster, BoTW at 720p on a 6" screen will look very impressive for people despite what numbers say.

Tagging this.

If serious?

Yes, tag all you want.

Something is for sure, Switch will smash Ps4 the next holidays, I predict a ton of saltiness from there.

With a 200 maybe even 180 ps4  and  the next uncharted.

Best joke ever.

The more you laugh now... but we´ll see. I actually think is crazy to believe that what I said is that unlikely, this thing will clearly sell a ton on holidays which is Nintendo best season while Sony usually don´t get such a boost from that, so I would say yes, switch has a very high chance to outsell it on that season.

i would even be willing to give the switch 6 months of beating the PS4. Or however quickly they can make and ship 5-7M units.

There has to be at least 5M hardcore nintendo fans out there and at least another 3M neutrals.

But I do not see this thing having legs.

And no one seems to be talking about how it costs $80 for a pro controller. Or $50 for each half of the joycon controller.

I really do wonder though, anyone that thinks this will do well.... on what grounds are they making that assumption?

Everbody's talking about that. But yeah those Nintendo fans might be fed up with the Switch so naw it aint beating PS4 for 6 months straight or 6 months altogether.

Those 34 votes are a joke right?

Both PS4 and 3DS will outsell it easily.

Switch will have a chance ONLY IF gamefreak release mainline pokemon game for switch. You're delusional if you think current switch lineup can compete with ps4 lineup

Of course it cannot compete in a head to head competition, since the PS4 has more than a 3 year advantage. But the first year is already alot better than the Wii u, and personally better than the PS4 first year.

Switch problem lies into acessories prices and the stupid online payment.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

The stupid online paymen is awful but is already a standar so I dont see how that could hurt it, it didnt hurt X360 or Ps4 at all. Also, there is already some brands doing accesories for the Swtch that will not be as expensive as the Nintendo ones.
