PS4 Getting "Major" Update Soon, Sony Opens Beta Test Registrations

Sign up now for a chance to beta test update 4.5.

A "major" PlayStation 4 update, the first big one since September 2016's 4.00 update, is coming soon. Sony confirmed this update today in a PlayStation Blog post, but didn't share any info about it, only saying it's called 4.5 and will have some "improvements and new features."

As it did with 4.00 and other updates, Sony is inviting players to beta test the new one before it goes live for everyone. You can register to access the beta here by submitting your PSN ID--but note that you need to be 18 or older. Additionally, there are no guarantees that you'll be selected.

Be sure that you have a working email attached to your PSN ID, as that's how Sony will notify people chosen.

The beta itself will start in early February, and once it begins, Sony will cut off new registrations.

There is no word yet on when PS4 4.5 will arrive for everyone. For comparison, the PS4 4.00 update became available for beta testers in August before launching publicly in September.

what? so far every major PS4 update has been named after a famous Japanese warriors or something like that. Singen, Musashi, kenshin, Masamune....etc

So will they finally make a proper video player? The thing plays almost no sound in my mkv files.
Other than that I think there will be security stuff happening, a lot.
Perhaps they also add psx games but of course only to sell them again... I hope other hackers open the system so people can finally play their games they own since ages, Retroarch should do perfect on the ps4.

Then you have the wrong audio codecs on your mkv files, since it does play mkv, and supports MP3, mpeg-2, AAC or AC3 for audio.

I read just came in here to post about hoping for PS1 classics. Here's hoping it's even on the cards for us.
