Perhaps. I'd still advise waiting for official numbers until this site...

A. Tracks things beyond the holidays (and/or not just when the NPD result is apparently so close).
B. No one else offers up much to go on (often why I give VGC so much credit).

I knew those weren't confirmed numbers. I just didn't see anything "solid" concerning Nov and Dec NPD hardware numbers.

They are confirmed as proven to you by my reply yesterday. CGI is speaking about Windows Central but we can come up with the same numbers with the official report from NPD and Microsoft's PR comment.

That's what I'm talking about, Boutros. The actual numbers from NPD, not what an article said. The links you provided me didn't say anyting definitive about actual hardware numbers for PS4 and Xbox One. I'm not trying to argue or anything. I just wanted to see something definitive. I didn't see anything in the NPD that said the "actual" PS4 numbers or anything like that. That's all I'm saying. PS4 still won at the end of the day, but I just wanted to see the actual factual numbers from them.

Interesting to see DR4 open better than DR3. Then again, DR4 had the whole month to account for in its favor in comparison.

But those are the factual numbers. Using the numbers from last year and knowing the percentage of YOY growth/decline with simple math you get thw number of units sold. The numbers from the NPD results match Windows Centrals leak from Wednesday.

I understand but we never get official numbers from NPD.

MORE CHARTS!

These are all the LTD-related charts for the PS4 & XBO.

This chart is interesting. It shows Microsoft trying so hard to close the gap.

1st holiday with the price cuts and Kinectless SKUs.

2nd holiday they didn't really have an answer.

3rd holiday Xbone S and bundles were doing their work, until Sony fought back with the UC4 bundle, had small gains with the Pro.

This is the year it has to happen for Microsoft. A full year of Xbone S, launch of the Scorpio. IF the sub $199 PS4 doesn't disrupt their plans.

If I was Sony I'd relaunch the PS4 Slim, make White the standard model, permanent cut to $249 until BF.

What i got from that particular chart is that it just shows what MS overall strategy this gen has been. They just throw verything at the end of the year. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't..... but a constant seems to be sony slowly but surely building a lead every other month of year.

If the amazon thread is anything to go by then sony might be taking this month too. And with teh lineup sony has they might very well be taking most of the months this first half of the year yet again. So the question is, what does MS have on the software front this holiday? Or do they plan on winning november and december 2017 with the scorpio alone? Or is their strategy to just slow down the gap yet again?

This is the chart thats got me most curious.... espcially looking at the PS3/XB1 cgart.... I have always wondered just how big a role RRoD played into those 360 numbers. Never in the history of any mainline console has there been such a catastrophic failure rating.... i think it was something like 22% right? Or was it 32%

Series seems to pretty consistent, DR3 lower sales can be explained by being a launch title.

The PS4 fell behind in the 2014 holiday season because MS cut the price of the Kinectless SKU (which was released in May that year) to $350, undercutting the PS4 by $50. That really helped boost the XBO's sales, though the effect fizzled out after the New Year. The XBO actually won April 2015 by a slim 10k margin because of big deals certain retailers had for it but not for the PS4. It also won Oct. 2015 because of Halo 5. But the PS4 totally dominated the holidays that year because it was once again brought to parity with the XBO. It wouldn't win again until this past July when they issued a clearance price to existing XBO SKUs ahead of the X1S's release. The X1S gave XBO sales a pretty solid boost, while Pro preorders were cannibalizing at least some of the PS4 sales and dampening the effects of the PS4 Slim (combined Sept.+Oct. sales were 661.8k for the XBO and 520.3k for the PS4, a difference of 141.5k; the Pro sold 242k in November).

Now that the Pro and Slim are both out, we've seen the PS4 retake the lead. However, there were plenty of holiday deals, which have a distorting effect. We'll have to see how things go over the next several months, assuming we keep getting numbers, but if Amazon is any indication the PS4 should retain the lead, and it may even grow its proportional lead, similar to how the XBO won the 2014 holiday season but immediately dropped back below the PS4 in 2015.

I doubt the 360's record-setting failure rate contributed much of anything to its sales. It was more cost-effective to pay the $100 to send an out-of-warranty 360 in for repairs than it was to pay $300+ for a brand new console. I honestly doubt that many people would actually go buy a brand new 360 just because their current one failed. I had my 360 fail twice, once in 2008 (or maybe early 2009) when it was still under warranty, and again in 2011, and the second time I just paid the $100. I haven't had any problems since.

Exactly. Most consumers are not that stupid to fork out full price again when when a company wide policy for RROD at the time ensured speedy repair free of charge. People have been making silly remarks (RROD contributing hugely to the 80m or so 360 sales) like this all throughout the 360/ps3 gen.
