I'm sure Kamiya and MS just couldn't work out their creative differences.

The difference is Microsoft isnt creative (like Kamiya) and isnt patient. Rumor has it Kamiya wasnt well and took a month off of the game and Microsoft pulled the plug because it didnt meet the time table.

and those silly rumors were squashed by Kamiya himself. Sounds more like they just failed to deliver which seems to gel with the long time silence on this game.

Microsoft have pushed plenty of 'creative' games. And it's ludicrous to think Microsoft pulled the plug on a game being a month behind their timetable. Do you honestly believe they dumped millions into the ip just to pull the plug when it falls a bit behind?

It can only be MS' fault here, evil corp doing what it can do best.

I think it's weird that Hideki Kamiya didn't throw a tantrum on twitter when the news broke. When Scalebound was shown on Gamescom 2015 (i think), he raged on twitter about how Microsoft presented it as a casual game. This guy doesn’t care about who the publisher is. Now, he just seems sorry and regretful about the cancelation. If it wasn't their fault he should have been furious about the decision but what we got was, "I'm sorry" and "we'll do better next time".

I don't think it is Platinum's fault, but I don't think it's Microsoft's either. Both of them made mistakes obviously. Scalebound was in development for 4 years (I believe) and if Platinum missed milestones, this is what happens. I don't think that Microsoft would have cancelled if they were happy with what Platinum did produce in this time.

I was really looking forward to Scalebound because I love the concept. I also recognize that Xbox needs japanese titles. Xbox One had 3 japanese exclusives and lost 2 of them now. Now all they have is D4 which isn't going to continue because of Kinect hate and bad marketing. Phantom Dust, development hell. And now Scalebound. It's sad but I don't necessarily blame Microsoft for everything. They wouldn't invest if they didn't believe in the product from the start.

Aaaand that's where I'm done :P

Yeah, it was really dissapointing hearing about those news, it was one of my own most anticipated games. We need more games like Ori, Scalebound and the likes that test some new things and brings new experiences to us fans.

Such as? What hot titles have Microsofts first party pushed from first party that ever made anyone turn their head? Sunset Overdrive doesnt count since the IP is not theirs and that was the works well before they helped publish it. Not purchased titles like Halo and Gears.Phil Spencer has always alluded to wanting to make Microsoft focus on first party like Sony and Nintendo, which means he already knew first party at Microsoft has always been a massive issue. They had droughtslast gen at the end because they could not keep up with Sonys first party and not enough third party were free to make exclusives.

Well....sucks for MS then. Nier looks good. I am willing to bet if they worked with any other company the partnership would've worked out. If Platinum wasnt large enough, I probabaly wouldve worried for their lives after working with MS. Hasnt MS lost like three exclusives in two years already? I mean they werent even major but still.

I know, never witnessed an AAA game getting cancelled 3 years after announcement and seeing footage a few times. Thought these games were too big to fail and would be finished no matter the broken state they release in.

This was going to be my go to rpg in late 2017, finally a WRPG like from PG.
