Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer - Talks about Scalebound and first party games "1st party internal studios are critical"

As least Don Mattrick knew how to handle third party developers. And that guy was an idiot.

Well 1st party internal studios taking care of Halo, Gears and Forza sure are critical to Xbox. Those are the exclusive games that sell and Xbox audience wants to play.

I played Ryse, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, ReCore etc and enjoyed them but for some reason it looks like majority of Xbox gamers didn't want to buy them. So in a way gamers voted with their wallets and that put Microsoft in a confusing spot with 1st/2nd party games I think.

I'm good playing Halo + Gears + multiplatform stuff but I would be lying if I told you I don't want them to come up with new IPs. Hopefully they'll keep trying but what kind a game would do well on Xbox then? Should they just try to make a new dudebro shooter or something?

Scumbag Microsoft:
-Pays $2.5 billion for exclusive rights to Minecraft ... and makes it multiplatform
-Does not budget $ to complete already announced and advertised Xbox exclusives

Why would they waste money on a badly managed project? I'm pretty sure if it was coming along nicely and delivered on time, they wouldn't have cancelled it.

sad news for videogames

Poor Phil, it seems Xbox need to change , they need to separate from Microsoft. Microsoft has the budget but they doesn't spend it for Xbox Division solely . Or maybe they are not serious investing on consoles anymore. I have a hint that there will no future for Xbox, i want Xbox stay on Industry so the video games consoles market can live. SONY alone cannot sustain it. And Nintendo is focusing on Mobile.

Of course they could. As a matter of fact they re already doing it.

No more "Microsoft" would be a windfall. The hope for Nintendo to expand and investing more into existing and new franchises would be rekindled again. Not that i have high hopes that it could ever gappen, but... to see Nintendo go mobile is... painful.

And yes, they (MS) were never seriously invested in the console-business. They were serious about gaining a foothold in the business and implement Bills vision of a media center in the living room of US-american/western households. That ONE device to fulfill the needs of the customer hungry for entertainment.

Mission accomplished. To them this what counts.

Yeah,  i can see that by their policy on  implementing Xbox for Windows platform.  But They took the longest path while Apple already jump on the easiest way on Apple streaming device and Apple TV, and STEAM on PC already lead a head.

I'm with Platinum on this one. That's goes double if nier turns out well. Lord knows Microsoft cannot do anything for themselves and they do not own the sunset overdrive ip. The way the game sold as an exclusive they would be wise to go multiplatform with that gem of a franchise because i want to see a part two. If Microsoft was a proven developmental studio I would believe them but they aren't even on level with their competition but rather far beneath them.

We've been over this in another thread already, for all the talk you do about how great Sony's first party output is compared to Microsoft's, Sony only has one or two more internally developed new IP's this gen than MS, and that's counting TLG, which is debatable as a new IP. I haven't checked the numbers but I would guess the numbers are about the same for moneyhatted games/partnerships as well, and plain old first party sequels. Either you're very very wrong the way you talk up and down about the two companies, or Sony has just been very very lazy this gen with their lead, pick one.

And I'm aware MS doesn't own the Sunset IP, after all Sony wanting control of the IP is the only reason the PS4 didn't get the game as an exclusive.

Sony has more IP's that are strong and ready to go compared to Microsoft, but I will give it to you that they've taken some time to build up on their new IP's from notable studios. That takes time. Thats the difference....Sony has the studios. Microsoft has admitted to trying to replicate games like Uncharted and failing, hence why they moneyhatted tomb raider. They had no answer for it. Regardless, I love Halo and Gears so.....I will keep getting Xboxes for those two. I am just saying...last generation Sony trounced both Nintendo and Microsoft in new IP's developed regardless of party and their first party was still strong on the list. Microsoft came up short and ended up running out of gas after third party became less willing to make exclusives towards the end of the gen.

Also, yes...I know Sony wanted the IP to Sunset Overdrive and truthfully, they dont deserve it. That doesnt mean they dont make amazing games on their own. I mean Gravity Rush 2 maintains a solid 80 on metacritic, Horizon is coming, Days gone is coming, Last of Us 2 was announced, God of War 5 is coming, Spiderman is coming, The new Uncharted DLC is coming and much, much more. With Sony....they can feel confident in laying an IP to rest and making a new one. They can feel confident in their first party to work so they can tend to their second and third party with ease. Microsoft just checks up on the big three first party, which are just maintaining the same three IP's. The coalition was supposed to be an new IP company but Microsoft turned them into a Gears mainstay. What does this tell you about Microsofts thinking? They arent interested truthfully in being creative internally. They just want to pump out the same games until they burn out because lord knows when another hot new IP will come to them. They havent found one in two generations.

What is big that I am supposed to be waiting for from MS this year? Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3? All mid tier. I'll Play Halo Wars though. I tell you this...Microsoft is going to need to have a godly E3.

So then its laziness, which makes any supposed advantage in studios or IPs irrelevant.

This guy is worse than don matrick, every time he speaks is to spit BS.

The main improvments over the Don Matrick model are: Improved voicebox durability, tact adaptiveness system, and a belly button.
