just a question. was it ever announced when ps2 game developers will slowly phase out the release of ps2 games?

i hope not any time soon.  ps2 games are really fun.  i noticed in the world wide console comparison, ps2 overall was 2nd to DS in terms of hardware sales, and it was more than the wii.  but looking at weekly comparison, i think the wii has caught up in terms of weekly sales to ps2 lately.  But the interesting part is ps2 sales are still so much stronger than ps3 sales.  will developers soon move their focus and resources to ps3 away from ps2 tho the market still seems very strong?

im thinking of a silver slim for my bedroom while keeping my original ps2 in my computer room. it's only $129...hm...

not any time soon thats for sure, Madden 07 sold 3 million. PS2 will live long thanks partly to the wii, because of the wiis weak hardware PS3 or 360 ports wont work so Devs have to make a wii version. That wii version can easily be ported to the PS2.

while i wait for FF13 and FF13 versus, i guess i'll have time to catch up to my ps2 RPGs while playing party games on the wii. :)

PS2's long life has NOTHING to do with the Wii.

 It has an install base of over 100 million, while the PS3 has 3m, the 360 has 9m, and the wii has 7m.

There is a larger market for PS2 games, than next gen, period.

If the PS3 or 360 do not reach critical mass, THAT will be a reason for continued support of the PS2, not the Wii's reaching of said critical mass.

If the PS3 fails, the PS2 will continue receiving software, but they will only get the low end crappy versions of Wii software, EG: Raving Rabbids for 360

I think this is the last year where the PS2 version of Madden will be the best selling, but that probably means it will at least get the next two Madden games after that. Outside sports titles and liscensed stuff don't expect a ton of games beyond 2007 though. There are some action games and RPGs over the horizon, but nothing that looks to blow us away. The PS2 software market is flooded by cheap games and of course by the used game market so developers just don't have the incentive to make big games for the system that they did a year ago. Even though a year from now tens of millions of people will still be playing PS2s few of them may be willing to buy full priced $50 software for it anymore. Almost all the games that are coming out for the system are $40 or less. Madden 2008 is the only future one I'm aware with a $50 tag.
