It's crazy that a lot people can't tell the difference between sold and shipped....not the same thing.

Literally no one in this thread fit the bill..

In fact you won't find a community that understands shipped vs sold better than VGC.

Yeah okay, whatever.

who said it sold 6 mil? its selling well thats why it shipped another 1 mil since launched

That's why they haven't said how much they ACTUALLY sold??? It's been over a month now. I'm not interested in how many units shipped and in my opinion if it sold that well SE would be bragging about copies sold not units shipped.

The more it sells, the more they will ship the game to stores. I think everyone here understands that.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Square Enix doesn't have access to those kind of numbers especially only a month after release (except digital sales I would assume). All they know is what retailers tell them about the amount of stock left. Square will use NPD numbers for sell-through in North America when they come out but until then they don't know. It's not like SE has an internal market research team (at least not one as big as NPD or GfK Chart-Track). So yes they will stick to shipped numbers because that's the only info they know for sure. Also shipped numbers are naturally bigger than sell-through numbers however good sell-through numbers might be. So that information is often favored PR-wise. And not only by SE but by most companies out there. So I don't understand why you're raising your pitchfork here?

I don't know about that.  I've been here years and frankly I'm surprised most people here have the intelligence to type, let alone hold a controller.

Not saying people here are smater (lol) just that the nature of the website (which has been sharing sell-through estimates since it started) has made the community more aware of the nuances and differences between shipped vs sold.

But actually I do believe people here are smarter than NeoGAF. And that's all that matters.

Hmmm that's strange cause a month after RE6 came out Capcom knew exactly how much they sold both physically and digitally. The same for the Reboot of Tomb Raider. Its also funny you say that cause, there were sales numbers for FFXV in Japan a few weeks after it released. Hell, there were threads on this site about it. I believe at the time it only sold roughly 700k. I'm sorry, but I think they'd know within a month what the sales figures were.

Yeah cause don't you know that when something is shipped it automatically sells directly to the customer?! There's no such thing as back stock, it's a myth. Just like a unicorn.

Is the passive aggression really needed?  People know this. However, a lot of shipments is still a good sign. Square Enix has already made their money from these above average shipments. As far as I know, they make the real money from their shipments. The stores are the ones that benefit from actual sales. This will motivate them to make FF16 (not that they need the motivation but it's still a good thing for the company). High shipments also indicate that it's in demand. The more stores sell, the more they'll request. Sometimes initial shipments can be misleading when judging demand when a games extremely overhyped and the stores think it'll sell, but Final Fantasy XV has shipped an adittional one million which implies it kept selling enough to warrant additional shipments. Sales are important, but shipments are too.
