Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Confirmed: Scalebound Cancelled

Usually when a broken game is released gamers are furious. Now I'm reading here they should release those games anyway, go figure. More quality games would obviously be best for gamers, but no game at all is still better than half-baked, downgraded tech mess.

Nope. Maybe for you but definitely not for everyone. Plenty of games that are called "half-baked" have tons of fans who played them and either enjoyed them or loved them.

That's...really kind of splitting hairs. It went from making a whole new game, to just rereleasing the old game on the Xbox. Like FF7 remake, and the PS4 port of FF7. If they had announced the full remake, and then said they were just going to release the port, that isn't really making good on that earlier claim.

Well from my understanding the original plan was a remake, now its a "re-release" (essentially a simple port).

FF7 is already playable on many devices and easily accessible for a low price. The same can't be said for Phantom Dust, its a less technically dated game, and more people will probably experience it on X1 than ever before. Bottomline, a port of a rare, cult classic is better than nothing.

Yes, origionally they were making a new Phantom Dust. Though I don't really think it would be a remake, because it wasn't supposed to be a new version of the origional game, but a totally new, multiplayer only Phantom Dust game.

And yes, being able to play the game on the Xbox One is good since it was only available on the origional Xbox (and then on the 360 through BC). But that doesn't mean it's a fulfillment of the promise of a new Phantom Dust game.

The new Phantom Dust game was cancelled, and they've decided that they can still use the IP by porting over the old game.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

My conversation is as grown up as it needs to be. The situation doesn't require any grown up thinking. Am I going to convince you that MS not releasing a shit game, or not throwing more money down the drain on this trainwreck is a mistake? Unlikely. Are you going to convince me that canceling this turd was a bad thing for gamers? Nope :)

The difference is I actually have an argument to make.

We both have arguments to make, friend. You are more than welcome to disagree with my point of view, but that doesn't make it nonexistent or less valid :)

Also, I am saying the game was shit based on gameplay we saw. MS canceling it is just icing on the poop cake. I don't need anything more substantial than what I saw with my own two eyes and what a big publisher saw enough of to pull the plug.

The difference is I actually have an argument to make. Your entire argument is your assumption that it MUST have been garbage because it was cancelled. All we know is that the game was taking longer, and costing more than expected, and that the relationship between Microsoft and Platinum Games over creative differences.

Absolutely none of that is "The game wasn't living up to Microsofts quality standards".

If you'd like to come back with something more substancial than "I didn't think it looked good" than feel free.

He seems to be a Crapgamer suscriber so I wouldn't bother. Who would actually applaud the cancellation of a game and an exclusive no less.

I've never seen a second of Crapgamers videos and doubt I ever will. Funny, the only time I hear about what CG thinks of things is when someone assumes an Xbox fan they are engaging with must be a subscriber and super big fan. I don't think i have ever seen an Xbox user here reference anything he's said in a serious manner. Maybe one or two of the more unhinged and now permabanned members? It seems non-Xbox users here follow and reference CG more than anyone else, were always being reminded of what he says or does.

You seemed pretty interested in the here....

I listed "more Scalebound" gameplay at the bottom of my E3 wishlist. And then gave the game the second lowest grade of the conference. Such interest.

On paper Scalebound seemed like a good premise. There's nothing wrong with anyone anticipating the game. But PG just didnt deliver.

Your right, it's just less valid because it's wrong.

If not mourning the loss of a shit game that played like shit and was canceled for being irreparably developed into shit is wrong, then I don't want to be right :)

I'll have a bowel movement later, I won't mourn that as I flush it either.

I can't recall MS ever clarifying what it would be. So there wasn't much to fulfill given they never said much. The most we know is leaked details.

The port is necessary to make good on some sort of Phantom Dust release. Sometimes remakes/reboots are a disaster, atleast the odds of that are low with a simple port.

Ok so better for me and those who would be upset about wasting money and time on poor product. One example comes to mind, XCOM: The Bureau. I was excited about it for a long time but they had serious troubles developing it and finished product was a mess. I did enjoy it enough to finish it and so did couple of other gamers but in the end it would have been better just to cancel it. And maybe try again later if possible. It just flopped and disappointed those who bought and played it.

But no one is forcing you to buy it. Not only is there an incredible number of reviews of AAA games nowadays, either from sites like IGN, Gamespot or from youtubers, but you can also watch playthroughs on youtube to get a good idea what it's about. How many truly horrible games have had great reviews so far? I'm not talking about games you didn't like; I'm taling about products universally seen as poor. If you buy it day 1, I think it's on you. I'm sure there are enough people who played it and liked it and prefer that it was released rather than cancelled.

If you hate it that much, you can sell it and get most of your money back. If you're on the fence, just rent it.

Nobody is forcing me to buy anything and I'm not complaining about wasted money. I'm complaining about wasted potential, an interesting good idea for a game butchered by bad development etc. It's depressing and you can tell developers didn't manage to deliver their vision at all or make it work. And it sold very poorly, it must not have been good for publisher or developers either. But let's agree to disagree then.
