According to a survey by analyst firm Frank N. Magid Associates the following is true about Wii owners:

Magid found that amongst primary Wii gamers, the overwhelming majority, 80 percent, were male gamers, and a combined 72 percent were in the traditional 12-24 age group.

The age range I won't speak to, but the numbers on female gamers seem positive. Am I wrong in assuming that 20 percent of gamers being women is a significant increase?

i tend to disagree...i bought my father a wii... and he hasnt played games since the NES days because of all the "extra buttons" and is confusing for the older generations..... and he is playing Wii on occasion

btw, the wii is a big hit with the ladies...no pun intended

Women love to get their hands on Wiis. The expression on their faces when they hold it in their hands is usually one of curiosity first, followed by amazement and wonder at all the things they can do with it. They can't get enough. 

The female gamers will get Wiis later. Women really aren't going to kill themselves going everywhere to find a Wii like men will. My mom who wants a Wii has given up finding one for now, and says she'll just pick one up when she can find one. Ultimately the Wii will be the Chick console this generation, and there won't be a close second.

I'm interested how many women play PS3 or 360.

Earlier this year there was a poll that showd 87% of console owners are adults and like 30 something percent are female gamers...
