Flippancy, tone, respect, incitefulness, crudeness, callowness, etc....

You can make your facts about Easter known without being rude about it. When you are rude about a topic, you aren't setting the stage for welcoming conversation.

I took a look at the thread. It's about conservatives taking issue with another version of Easter bunnies and getting mocked for it by multiple people. It doesn't make sense to pick out one post of a thread that has a set theme (mockery with no intent for any meaningful discussion, because it's just a funny video), moderate it and leave everything else alone.

Looks like a case where one post was reported and the context of the thread wasn't reviewed before a decision was made, because if it's about not offending people, the whole thread would need to be shut down.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Okay so I'm not replying to a specific post of yours in general, but to the whole situation... please bare in mind as you read this that I'm coming into this with very little prior knowledge of the "situation", all I've seen is the warning you were given and your posts in here.

Right, so... first of all you can drop the victim act, there is no way you wanted an actual discussion, otherwise you'd have started one and not used a meme picture to insult the beliefs of a whole religion, you even used the term "Mr. Imaginary", to me the post, and even your follow up posts in here, seem like you were out to bait from the start, but as soon as you were given the warning you came out crying and acting like you've been victimised.

Secondly, you were given a warning, a light one at that, which reads;
"Hello there. You're receiving a warning for your post in the happy easter thread. Please do not post pictures or things that degrades another religion, it only sparks hostility and potential fights. Thank you."

Now, to me, that reads as a polite reminder as to not post anything that could cause trouble (Something you did), yet you're acting as if she's saying you're not welcome on the forums, or neither are Atheists, which is downright ridiculous when you consider just how many of us are on the forums in the first place.

Do I believe in a god or follow any religion? Nope, I'm an atheist and strongly believe there is no god, but I'm not going to go out of my way and, to put it frank, be a dick by posting a picture mocking Christians for believing in "Mr. Imaginary"... and do you know why I'm not going to do that? Because it's completely uncalled for, people are free to believe what they like, and in a case such as religion you can't exactly tell someone they're wrong since, just as there is no proof there is a god, there is also no proof that there ISN'T a god.

Anyway, I was going off-track with that last part, so to return to the issue; I back the decision Amy made to give you a warning, as I too (along with other mods and members it'd seem) believe you made your post with the sole intention of trolling/baiting/whatever rather than instigating an intelligent discussion on the topic.

... And that's my piece.

100% agree with you fam.

I've gotta say, I largely agree with Rol's assessment. Abbath participated in the thread in a reasonable manner, relative to the tone of the thread.

Further, even if he posted those pics in a thread about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they just don't seem very offensive. If we're going to say that post (as I see it now, dunno if something that was removed substantially changes it) is offensive, and be consistent, mods are gonna have to hand out warnings on half of the posts in this forum that mention religion in any way.

You're welcome. :)

Really, like Politics, these things can get tricky. Not always knowing what is offensive and what isn't is certainly a gamble. Still, I appreciate having gotten a better idea of what you were going for now. For example, calling God "Mr Imaginary" is likely to ruffle feathers, but of course, context is key. With a reasonable explanation defending that view, I wouldn't even give it another look for any potential moderation.

Like I said though, use this thread as a means to bring things like this up if you're unsure. I'll have no issue taking a look (and there are plenty of great users here who'd be good to get advice from if no mods are around)!

Yes, I understand. I suppose that this is a situation of "let's see how things unfold", let's see whether I go "overboard" and say something out of line or whether I stumble upon some stricter sensibilities from someone that reports me and a hypothetical mod that agrees with him/her.

But I really appreciate the nature of this exchange with you CGi and I am glad you are there in the Mod Team.

Thank you.

Yes, the video has the reporter saying: "Is this sacrilege?" as in "sacrilege to the true meaning of Easter" and I was like: "True meaning of Easter? Do you want me to talk about the true meaning of Easter and it's origins?"

Hi guys, me again.

Pretty sure I got banned for saying Switch will be powerful enough to do VR. Think the actual reason was 'spamming' because the mods at the time kept locking the threads I made where I tried to explain how Switch could achieve it with less power.

Don't feel bad, I'm not bitter. No apologies necessary. If you can just strike it from the record we'll all sleep well knowing justice has finally been served (even though it would probably make a good Netflix documentary).

Fingers crossed Labo-VR doesn't cause brain tumours.

Easter's pagan origins aren't important. You were mocking the Christian celebration of Easter like the people in the video. The original video itself is a nonsense, reminds me of the non-existent 'We have to change the name of Christmas because Muslims are offended' stories. I find it hard to believe that the residents of New Jersey are devout Christians yet they also found it distasteful and disrespectful.

"Christians use Wednesday and Thursday even though they're named after Thor and Odin, herp derp"

Nonesense. If the ban reason says it's because you were spamming, then that is the reason.

Besides, it occurred years ago, time to move on. Hopefully you learned something from it.

The issue wasn't the anti-religious rhetoric, I am Atheist myself.

The issue came about from how he presented his stance... A couple of trolling memes, a thread does not create... Again, hopefully he learned something from the ordeal and won't make the same mistake next time.

Add something of substance that is worthy of discussion in a thread you are trying to build.

Well I once got moderated for saying that a certain fanbase that were overtly enthusiastic about their platform of choice, and extremely dismissive of anyone that didn't share their enthusiasm "sounded like born-again Christians" because apparently a Christian apparently could interpret in such a way that they might be offended by it.

So based on that, it's best to just not even act like religion exists and is something that should ever be mentioned on this message board. The only way to win that game is to simply not play it.
