It may not necessarily be lying, but it can cause problems if you say someone did/said something that you aren't entirely sure of. And the biggest issues you'll face on the site are history and patterns. People are less forgiving when they see your name pop up, because they'll think 'oh great, it's quickrick/cliffman/troll' or what have you. I am not personally bothered by you misremembering my words, but I can understand why it would bother others.
Coming back to the root of this discussion — moderation. The mod team receives lots of flack for letting what I noted above slide without a second look. Do not take this as me trying to call you out, I'm merely stating where my hands get tied. Sure, I don't always agree with every complaint/piece of feedback, but you need to put yourself in my position for a second. *This is just an example* · I step in and moderate Rol, right? He attacked/flamed you. Sure. Fine and dandy. Perhaps he went too far, calling you some name. Now, how does it look when I hear from others similar complaints of the situation to which Rol fell prey to? Was it really just him after all? Should everyone else see moderations while you continue hopping from thread-to-thread with bear traps ready to be deployed? What do I do, collect your traps and protect you? Protect Rol? Leave it be and hope it resolves itself?
I want you to think about what I'm saying and, if you would, provide answers to those questions. Then we can proceed to Phase 2.
The longer the discussion in this thread has gone on, the more has reality been warped.
I didn't call quickrick any names in the post I got moderated for. All I did was state truthfully what the situation is and that was deemed as flaming, because being accurate doesn't make it okay to say it.
Protect the community and justice, that's what the mod team should do. I mean, let's rewind the tape:
Doesn't the linked post look a lot like déjà-vu? Kerotan calls out a mob while quickrick plays the victim. It's always the same song and dance.
I agree with you, and understand you have a job and ill be more careful. honestly wish every mod was fair and neutral like you, and pemalite.
As for the the second part to be fair rol has been trying to get me banned since i got here, it was like a mission for him, so i'm not surprised that he will eventually get his way by forming a group and messaging people to actively complain about me, the guy dream is to be a mod, and this community seems to be a big part of his life, the guy flames people left and right, but get's away with it because he is very popular poster. I'm sure he's actively working on the down low to try and get rid of me, which imo is fine after the holidays i will probably stop posting here, so he can have his celebration.
edit: After rols banning and flaming post, i bet complaints are 300-400% against me, amazing job rol. don't think i care about this forum that much because if you didn't get banned i was ready to get perma banned you almost had me :).
If we keep the post I linked above in mind, quickrick already starts off with a misrepresentation. Now of course my objective changed to getting him banned, because he responded to the opportunity that had been given to him by throwing a fit over how incredibly unfair everyone is to him. There's no sincere interest from his side to change his ways.
Reading further in the bolded paragraph, there's the baseless accusation that I formed a group and messaged people to complain about him. There's the accusation that I flame people left and right and get away with it, and that's coming right after I got banned for flaming; note that the part about getting away with it is another accusation of bias directed at the mod team.
I appreciate the first part (though I've made my share of mistakes).
The second part, however, is a continuation of your problem, rick. Forget about Rol's desire to be a mod, or a personal vendetta, or his popularity, etc, etc. A) It is technically Flaming. So, please step away from that. You know what has to happen if you continue. B) You cannot improve until you start with your own issues. I told you in the PM (much like I've told Rol), let him be the one to mess up. A moderator can then step in and handle it.
We've gotten pretty off topic, so I want to let this be my last reply. I'll let you respond, but from there, let's get things back on track.
Defamation is indeed flaming. Note: Inconsistency in moderation bothers me much, much more than personal attacks.
This whole discussion over the past few days has been a long exercise of giving someone the benefit of the doubt despite said someone exhibiting all the traits throughout said discussion that should put an end to the benefit of the doubt. Flaming, unsubstantiated mod criticism etc.
As for point B) specifically, the advice to let quickrick be the one who messes up rings hollow. I am not speaking only for myself here, but for the whole community. The leeway that quickrick has gotten has been tremendous over this past year, and even in this thread right in front of the eyes of the mod team, he is being treated with utmost care and even receiving words of encouragement.
"A moderator can then step in and handle it," that's a line that's very hard to put any trust into when a discussion takes the direction it did take in this thread, and when the reason all of us are here is that the mod team didn't handle it properly for too long. Remember, I am saying this for the whole community. The credibility and integrity of the mod team is dissipating in such a situation, because the mod team comes across as looking out for quickrick, the guy who is at the center of all the problems. You've already recognized the severe inconsistency in moderation yourself, in the first post that is quoted in this post of mine.
However, the likely result of the warped reality is that quickrick's words that he will try to change are believed, because this time has got to be the time where he honestly means it. And when it turns out differently (which it will), people will begin to wonder why they allowed it to let it play out that way in the first place.
