Ah the moderator thread, when there is nothing else good left to read this is where I turn.

BTW what ever happened to the thread from a while back where anything goes? From what i read of it it was pretty tame but I don't know that I finished it...

OK, here's another avy I was thinking of using, want to get mod approval first, though:

If you have to ask the mod team if you can use an avatar, then the likelihood is that you know the avatar is pushing boundaries. This goes for anyone who ever has to ask for permission to use an avatar. The question is; Why do you need to have an avatar that's pushing boundaries?

And I haven't even clicked the link. My money is on some anime girl wearing very little clothing and/or in a suggestive pose. Am I right?

Well, now this comes with confusion though, since I have had avys that I wasn't punished for in the past, but then I later asked permission for and was declined, and this avy where two other mods allowed it for approval. It is a Mai Shiranui avy, she is in her default attire so yeah it is definitely not something someone would normally wear, but I wouldn't call the pose suggestive.

Can I ask why you felt like you had to ask if you could use the avatar?

Since I don't exactly know what the limit is.

All Avatars must be safe for work. This means that they should not be sexual (this includes blatantly sexualised poses), grotesque or graphically violent in nature. As a general guide, ask yourself whether you would see something like that in a PG-rated movie. There are children here, and people who are working, and there is no way for them to hide your obscene avatar. If in doubt, don't use it.

The last sentence is key.

If you think an avatar is pushing any boundaries, the chances are that it's not going to be allowed.

Hmm, I am in doubt because the line is a bit blurred. But the PG-rated movie section makes it even more confusing, because we can take my example of Mai and Chun kissing that I had at one point, if I find a PG-rated movie with two girls kissing each other would it be allowed?

It says use the PG movie as a general guide. Right before it, it says that avatars should not be sexual.

Again if someone has to ask then the chances are they're purposefully, for whatever reason, trying to push the boundaries of what is and isn't acceptable. However, in your own specific case as a member of VGC staff you should be looking to set an example of what is and isn't acceptable around the site, not trying to push those boundaries.

Well, I guess there is no need to debate over it, since I decided to switch to a different avatar anyway.

Carl, you need to turn on signatures again. You still have the "So lifelike" GIF in your sig, so what you just said comes with a lot of unintentional irony.

I've never had to ask or ever been told that the gif is pushing any kind of boundary, despite having it there over the space of 4 or 5 years.
