Forums - Gaming Discussion - So I've played Nier Automata demo, and my opinion changed somewhat.

I enjoyed the demo too, I wasn't sure about the game as I didn't really like what I played of the first one. There is a lot of things beyond the combat front I didn't really look at in this demo as it doesn't really go through it with you (why bother when you won't unlock new weapons or things in the demo anyway).

I'm more interested than I was but won't be buying it day one. Maybe in a few months when it comes down to £25 or so.

Hmm, pie.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the demo, much more than I think I would have. The only thing holding me back to put this on my need to buy list is that I didnt play the first game.Yeah I know that Automata dosent have that many ties to the first game and vould be played as the first entry, but it stills rubs me the wrong way to do it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

For me it was the opposite. I loved Nier but I'm not entirely happy how the new one feels. Performance is fine and of course style and music are awesome but the movement hasn't grown on me. It feels way too floaty as if the girl has absolutely no mass.
The demo was also very linear which if I remember correctly Nier wasn't so much. I hope the game will have more of an open world character like the original has with dungeons that are not just linear paths.

Still Day 1 for me though.

So just finished the demo after downloading just because. I was never interested in the game but now I am, I enjoyed the demo and it felt so fluid and smooth. The one thing that bothered me slightly was it seems that the combat could start to feel a little repetitive as in the demo there didn't seem to be much variety of moves and combos for this style of fast paced, stylised hack n slash (compared to DMC and Bayonetta). However it is just the start of the game and obviously there's more weapons and weapon sets so hopefully it can keep it from feeling to repetitive once you're well into the game.

Told you!!

I am bumping this thread to second this motion. Just beat the demo, and guys I never finish demo's. I enjoyed the mix of shump and side scrolling/top segments. They blended very well and also felt seemless. I had no idea this was an RPG. I thought it was another PG action game.

Scored points with me as well.

Good to see your opinon of the game has improved, im so hyped about (its hard to believe we are just some months away from it), also this game seems to have more freedom than what you see in the demo, like for example you can take sub quests, there is more customization in it, and levels seem to be larger than what we got in the demo.

Here is a video i found that shows some of that stuff (though i will admit i didnt see the whole thing since i dont wanna get spoiled).

I like it when Developers bring out Demos quite some time before release, it shows they have confidence in their product, and these did it perfectly, the demo completely sold me I enjoyed the gameplay and the little bit of what we got to know of the characters. Also they left it on that cliffhanger. Perfect demo for me.
