Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prediction: Kingdom Hearts Series Will Release On The Switch

Not the first time Sony's upcoming game reel missed didn't include KH, but included other SE games. Stop reaching.

I think it will too.

Even if they have to rework it a bit Switch apparently works well with Unreal Engine 4. Yes they'll probably have to downscale assets, but KH3 on Switch likely adds an additional 1+ million WW without much fuss I would think, and might even be the better selling version for the Japanese market.

It makes a hell of a lot more sense than a XBox One version.

They're already doing it for Dragon Quest XI (Unreal Engine 4 game). In fact this may have been one reason why Square-Enix dumped the Luminious Engine for Unreal Engine 4, so that they could cash in on future Nintendo portables (they likely knew about the Switch a while ago seeing as how they announced the first game for it).

They need it to run, but they can strip it down quite a bit for Switch, portable mode could be 960x540/30 fps with no AA and downscaled assets and probably still look fine on a small screen. Docked mode could run at 720p with maybe a few added effects if they really care to add them.

And you know it can't run it, how?

And do you have any guarantees that it can run on the Switch ?

The CPU in the Switch is more than 2x slower and the GPU is 10x slower than what's found in the PS4 and KH3 is probably targetting 30FPS much like the older games so cutting the framerate to 20FPS on the Switch won't do it ...

Your only hope that the Switch will get KH3 is if the PS4 version is targetting a much higher performance profile like say 1080p@60fps while the Switch will be running at a sub-HD resolution with 20FPS ...

I can even imagine a scenario in which the Switch will get a cell shaded treatment instead of the original artistic vision of the HD twins ...

The 'do you have a guarantee' bit isn't the best way to argue.

Also let's not forget we do not have any information from the actual people about what the game is playing. All we can know for sure, based on the difference in performance between U Breath and Switch Breath seen so far, is that it is stronger than the U.

I am not suggesting that the Switch will outpace them, but I am not going to pretend that it cannot reach similar levels.

According to the online stats on the X1, the system has 8 Gbs of RAM, 768 shaders 854 MHZ AMD cards, and 1.31 terraflops, to the Wii U's 2 GBS RAM, 320 shaders, .352 terraflops and 550 MHZ.

Given that the 1 terraflop rumor covers a sizeable gap of performance (assuming that it is just 1 terraflop, I am not a huge power focuser), getting within the ballpark is rather likely.

Especially if you note that they've had several years to find a way to advance that far.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

I think they should release 1.5 and 2.5 collection, and see how well it perform saleswise.
If it go relatively well, port KH3.
Seems pretty logical.

True but that could also take some time.

I heard some talk of releasing the collections on the PS4 (and possibly 1), so maybe if they do that then it would not seem so odd.

Nobody even knows the performance profile on the Breath of the Wild on the Switch ...

It's not just the GPU, you also need to take a look at the CPU and the Switch is already in big trouble in that department ...

It's funny to see you insinuate that the Switch will somehow get within the performance profile of an Xbox One when a full clocked Tegra X1 (which is what the Switch is based on but only more gimped clock rate wise) struggles with ports of last gen games like Metal Gear Rising and Resident Evil 5 LOL ...

I of course hope they release it on the Xbox One, but business wise, the Switch over the One is the better decision.

wait...Aren't you the guy that kept arguing with Soriku back in the day about why Kingdom Hearts 3 wouldn't come to the Wii?

Yup, and I'm glad I did too.....

I'd rather have a nexgen level KH game, than a KH with 3ds visuals on console..... I'm excited for what KH3 will bring on the ps4, bigger world's for sure, more content possibly, and visuals closer to what the CGI looks like.

The Sony reel didn't have spiderman(exclusive to ps4), which is likely to launch due to the fact the movie coming out this year....  Also crash wasn't in this reel either, and crash is of right now exclusive to ps4.

I also don't doubt KH may launch on the switch based on how FF XV sold in Japan. That was one of the big IP that was supposed to wake up console gaming in Japan. BUT, the game is doing well in the West.... With it being the #1 selling physical title this year on ps4 in the West over UNCHARTED and GTA (on Amazon at least).

We'll see how the switch does, if the system is a half gen behind in hardware like specs certainly suggest, that's a problem now with everyone moving to 4k TV's and QHD phones.... Why would someone play on a 720p or less handled, when ur phone looks way better for media content? We'll see..... Also with Nintendo dropping a Mario IP on mobile, that would make people less inclined to purchase Nintendo hardware with the perception they'll get their Nintendo fix on iOS or droid.

Tech is a tricky business: you can have a stronger machine that is a pain to code for. The PS3 and Nintendo 64 say hello.

Sales can only tell, as well as the 12th reveal. I admit I am not sure I'll see every game I've vaguely interested in from the west showing up, but the East I feel is a pretty strong chance.

Hence why I have my hopes up
