I know people complain about games being censored all the time, but does that actually stop anyone from buying them? If we look at Fire Emblem Fates, it still did very well despite the censorship on top of the shady split release, but then again, perhaps without the censorship it would have done even better. I'm mainly wondering this to know whether or not it'd be fair to add censorship to the list of reasons why Tokyo Mirage Sessions bombed undeservingly.

If they remove parts of the game, then I can understand people not buying a game. Like in South Park: The Stick Of Truth.

It is for me

If the censorship is sexual that is

Most people neither know nor care about it.

If I went into a GameStop and said to a stranger, "did you hear Tokyo Mirage Sessions is censored?" he or she wouldn't say, "what! That's bullshit." He or she would say "what's Tokyo Mirage Sessions?"

Depending on what they decide to censore, and why. If they are censoring something trivial and does not affect either the gameplay or the enjoyment of the story, there's no reason not to buy it (how many japanese games have the ages of female characters older due to value dissonance?). If they censore it because they can't sell it on a country otherwise, you import it if you can. If they are censoring something major that is going to affect the enjoyment of the game or the story, then not buying it is a bigger possibility.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Anything is a reason to not buy a game.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Is it a reason to not buy a game? Up to the person. Their money, they can decide what to do with it. Overall however does it effect sales? very marginally I would imagine. Tokyo mirage's problem wasn't really the game itself, but rather the platform it was on. Those games usually only sell well on Playstation or PC. Wii U doesn't really have an otaku audience.

It's a reason, but how much of a reason?
None
"Gamers" aren't known for being able to deny gratitude for their convictions even though you would think otherwise reason the political klap trap they so frequently indulge in.

Of course, objectively speaking it's a very good reason not to buy a game but when "gamers" are too scared to even call any review "objective", there's little hope by embeleshing them with the trust to show the contextual responsibility past cooking a tin of beans.

How does that sound? :(

Most the time it's not censorship,it's localization. People scream a fit these days. When I was growing up this happened all the time without us knowing and we still loved our games. Also the people typically complaining never planned to buy it. Just trolls.

No. Complaining about censorship that doesn't harm gameplay or story is just being petty.
