Forums - Sales Discussion - Amazon U.S. January bestsellers and general Amazon-based discussion

I live on a island. I came here to see what is happening in the modern world. I see people gasping for air (Nintendo products) like they had their heads under water for the longest time. I can see the Switch is a hot item, and I can understand that. Never seen so many extra pieces offered for a device and being grabbed up. (gasping at)

You sure have your work cut out for you guys tallying this. I appreciate the work you guys do. Thank you for your hard work and time invested.

Switch is gonna be the new Wii, core gamers hate it but casuals love it.

IMO it all depends on how it will be supported as a handheld device. If it's simply a home console which allows you to take your games on the go it will be a flop and I doubt it will sell 20million in its life. But if it gets handheld games like the Pokémon games I could see like 50million as the device would also be interesting to 3DS owners. I was really expecting Nintendo to announce games like this immediately but for some reason they haven't. They really should have had Pokémon Sun and Moon at launch and the rumored Stars for the holiday IMO. The complete lack of handheld focused games definitely has me worried when it comes to Switch sales.

They probably didn't announce it because its still January. Pokemon Sun and Moon just came out in less that 2 months. They don't wanna ruin its awesome sales now ---> Topping the US weekly charts on the front page! And plus they need more surprises @ e3. Zelda will be gone, sooo theres going to be bigger games that will get its spotlight.

Amazon is not back to normal. The Switch has been out of stock now for well over 10 hours and it's still at number one. When any other console went out of stock it started slipping down the charts so obviously Amazon are holding it there for when stock comes in. That is going to give us a distorted view of the charts:

The PS5 Exists.

Ehhhhh no big deal really with the NiS on the charts. It still has a few months to go before release so we know it all gors towards launch. Things should go back to normal soon enough.

Wow. I think there may be a bit of hype for BotW. Just a bit.

Switch looking to have a pretty good launch too.

Is there any doubt about that? :)

Even wii u had....:)

Wii U launched near the Holidays, this is March so there was some doubt.

And this isn't a new thing where Amazon temporarily goes haywire when a new thing shows up and shoots up the list.

The problem is not selling to the die hards and scalpers. It is selling to the mainstream and impulse buyers. There is a lot to like about the Switch. I know a lot of people who pre ordered, but will be cancelling due to all the rubbish like extra for online, and it only offering rentals, not actual games for that extra cost. An extremely low number of actual games due out, regardless of the quality. The fabled 3rd party support being mainly old and last gen titles.

With this business model of being very underpowered, but being in the PS4 Pro price range, it will tail off very fast. Which is a real shame, because Nintendo fills an hole nobody else fills. It is just not the reality of where things are going to end up when the dust settles. Which is a crying shame.

Here's today's update for the January rankings:

Nintendo Switch: #1* (new entry)
PS4 Slim Uncharted 4 bundle: #8 (↓3)
XBO S 500GB Battlefield 1 bundle: #33 (↓8)
NES Classic Edition: #79 (↓6)
PS4 standalone: #87 (↓5)
XBO S 500GB Minecraft bundle: #98 (↓12)

And here's the update for the rankings for Week 2:

Nintendo Switch: #1* (new entry)
PS4 Slim Uncharted 4 bundle: #18 (↓10)
XBO S 500GB Battlefield 1 bundle: #44 (↓17)
NES Classic Edition: #71 (↓10)
PS4 standalone: #78 (↓13)
XBO S 500GB Minecraft bundle: #86 (↑1)

Well, the Switch generated more preorders on Amazon in one day than the PS4 has sold in two weeks.

If Nintendo stays #1 during Febuary when Horizon and Halo Wars comes out then i can see the Switch being #1 for the first half of the year.

Well, we will see. There is already a FE Direct comming in 4 days, and Nintendo already said that they are announcing more indie games in the comming weeks.I know they are just indies, but even if some are like Yooka or Bloodstained, they can be considered big.And in the worst case scenario, they are still games. As for online yeah, it could go either way.Hopefully Nintendo adresses this soon.

Still at #01 and 'currently unavailable'. Another thing to take into consideration is the way the Amiibos and Switch software is offsetting the sales of the other two consoles. I bet you could add at least 10 - 15 place to both the PS4 and the XB1 if those were'nt there.
