Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ex-Ubisoft Dev: Direct ports from PS4/Xbox One to Nintendo Switch not possible

People, it's an ex-Ubisoft developer speculating on the rumored specifications, and he makes good (but mentioned before) points. But he has no insider knowledge or anything of the sorts. Why would he have such info if he isn't affiliated with Ubisoft anymore?

Heck, if you bother to go to page 59, you'll see he says "if the Eurogamer article holds". This is no confirmation of the Eurogamer rumor, which doesn't necessarily have to indicate bad performance, as has been calculated before (on Reddit, with enough CUDA cores it could achieve 400gflops undocked and a tflop docked and match the rumored clock speeds) but that is besides the point.

Eurogamer is saying this? Did they at any point do the math themselves?

Anyone can do the math once you have the clock speed numbers.

Did Eurogamer do the math?

With enough CUDA cores you could reach anything. You could have 5 TFLOPS.

Good luck running that on a battery for more than 5 minutes though.

People really have no idea either how much space batteries take up. You can't just have any performance number and think it's going to run. This is an iPad Pro (the huge 12 inch model). Look how big the battery needs to be to power that and really that doesn't go much over 8 watts most time. There are practical reasons why the Switch has to be clocked so low ... it needs to be able to run portably.

I won't get into the Switch specs debate, nothing's confirmed and won't be until the presentation (if nVidia decides to talk about the specs, that is) so it might as well be weaker than the Wii U and less than half of XBONE docked, but he managed to get reasonable power consumption with 640 CUDA cores that would allow for near XBONE when docked, meaning it's possible but that doesn't mean anything necessarily (far from it). Here's the thread;

Man, why do you have to taint this thread by inserting an iPad Pro here? I do like how thin they made that 10k mAh battery though, even though I think the resolution on that thing is absolutely stupid and pointless.

Duh, lol. Oh, wait, some people are still trying to believe its as powerful as xbone.... Sorry.

its 256 Cuda cores / 2SM

"Thought by many to be out of date or fake, we can confirm that Nintendo has briefed developers recently with the same information."

  • GPU: 256 CUDA cores, maximum 1GHz

Don't bother. People will still say it's inaccurate information. Difficult to debate with people who don't want to believe the truth.

Where are you getting these 393 and 157 gflop figures from?

The standard formula for getting gflops for a GPU, unified shaders x clock rate x 2

Tegra X1has 256 shaders, and Eurogamer/Digital Foundry claims that Switch's clock rate is 768mhz docked and 307mhz undocked.

256 x 768 x 2 = 393,216 flops or 393 gflops

256 x 307 x 2 = 157,184 flops or 157 gflops

Did some research and these calculations check out.

Seems awfully low. My current question now is can this at least outdo a WiiU? According to http://www.eurogamer.net/amp/digitalfoundry-2016-nintendo-switch-spec-analysis "Even a 307.2MHz GPU based on Maxwell technology should be capable of out-performing Wii U", it can.

Better than WiiU is the minimum I can accept.

What am i reading ? You think nintendo will put a 200 dolars console ? 250 ? AHAHAH

Also this is a forum, everyone have the right to comment. Is that so hard to think there is people who dont buy nintendo systems but wants them to have sucess?

All the things point to another WiiU situation and another cycle will continue.

Just like splatoon am i right?
